does anyone know if we are allowed to use highbankers or sluices in the rivers upstream from copeton dam near bingara ?

i am talking 17 km upstream

or is it banned because it eventually leads to the catchment area ?

on another note , do we have any locals here from Bingara or members that go to the area ?

thank u

G'day

I get up there occasionally but I'm no expert on the area. You should be fine running a highbanker as long as you make sure that silted or turbid water doesn't re-enter the waterway. Dig a settling pool or two with sand/gravel lips, or if you are well back from the river the water should be fairly clean by the time it gets back to the waterway.

Cheers

i just read on the www.bingara website that fishing and recreational boats are permitted on the dam so maybe its not used for town water as i originally assumed

good idea on the settling pond to avoid turbidity , i always set up back from the waters edge and let the fine sands filter out the sediment , if we all made it a standard practice the powers that be would never have a reason to ban highbankers.

I have no idea if there is any gold in that part of the river but it wont hurt to give it a couple of hours and have a crack at her.

thanks for your thoughts :D
