Work out how far you want to travel mate, then do a Google search on 'exempt rivers creeks and streams' the DPI (dpi.vic) have a list out on areas that are restricted from prospecting, also, check out the Alluvial Prospecting section on this forum, heaps of info in that section should have you up and running in no time mate
