Hi Mick's my name, I've joined this forum with the intent to learn more about the limits on what I can and can't do in qld as far as looking for gold and opal.
My main questions are about claims and where I'm legally allowed to dig or pan etc.
If anyone can shine some light on these subjects it'd be great.

Remember I'm new at this and I may ask dumb questions.

Cheers

Welcome Mick, lots of buried threads on the subject on this forum

Thanks for the welcome guys and girls, I'm exited to be here. I can wait to find out where I can go looking for stuff?

Ok heres the dumb question..
So in Australia, people own property. Dose that mean the government owns the rest? And if so are designated fossicking areas the only place I can look for things?

For e.g.
Take the TV show opal hunters.. You can see in coober pedy theres areas with dirt mounds everywhere and all people seem to do is peg out a claim and pay a fee to mine there for a given time.

Is this a designated fossicking area or just council land?

G'day Mick welcome to PA can't help with QLD anyway all the best when you get out there.
