Hi Guys, just new to the forum and prospecting. Any idea for gems or gold in or around the Bacchus Marsh area would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Jay,

I'm not from around there but i do remember going out to Lederderg gorge for a picnic once and realised it was an old gold area. I think its off limits to prospecting but maybe i heard that they may be opening it up to panning in the future...don't quote me on that though.

Welcome to the site dude.

Try Googling any creeks/rivers, localities/place names near you & the word gold or mine & see what comes up.
That's what I do & it's worked for me.
I do the same when traveling or visiting new areas.

Try the creek near the old Lion Park - cross under the highway culvert you get some fantastic fossils by splitting the ironstone. Glossopteris leaves and fruit are readily found.
