Well just found this place and wanted to post and say hi. ,
So Hi
My daughter panned some gold in the creek at sovereign hill a while back and we have always been wanting to go out and have a go.
Well i got the permit and a cheap pan from Aus Disposals , practiced on some old sand i had here and off we went to Dolly's creek, it seemed like the easiest to get to after about 30 minutes of looking for places online. Was really only a look see and kind of a couple of hours out for us ( she is 12) .
Got to the creek, went onto the bed and walked along it for a while and saw some hard packed clay ( false bedrock?) . Saw where many people had dug into the banks and risked cave ins and many holes in the middle of the creek and a big working where im guessing they dug out the bank and used a detector or dry blower perhaps.
Well we got into the crevices on the back side of the hard clay and scraped them out. The only water there was a stagnant little tiny dirty thing in which to pan with, so we did. We had only a BBQ scraper and the pans, no classifier bucket or anything.
Pleased to say we got 2 very small specs, gee that stuff stands out no matter how small it is.
Was good fun getting out exploring and the best bit is that she loved it.
Oh and Maccas on the way home
Cheers
Peter
