Yes the GPX 6000 is a great detector, I have one and found quite a lot of gold, however if I was heading to WA and only had my trusty GPX 5000 I would be ok with that, Nugget Finder 17x11 coil was / is my go to set up to search for those elusive nuggets and did so very successfully, all so have several other NF coils the including the14 x 9 and Sadie have all come up with the goods, The important thing is when starting out is to get good advice on the machine you have, get the hang of it as having confidence in what your using I believe is a very important part of being successful.
When you get out there pace yourself, the bull at the gate approach will have you getting tired and leading to sloppy detecting, Don't expect gold every time you get out or you will quickly become disappointed. . What I am saying is a 6000 is great, a 5000 available S/H at about half the price and quite often with several coils included will find you gold, (just make sure its a genuine Minelab) Just DON"T skip on the safety gear. As I mentioned in a previous post, doing a course with reputable outfit will get you a big head start in your detecting endeavor's. Thats my two bobs worth said, You have a great adventure ahead of you, enjoy.
