I urge all members to read the following petition (+ sign if you agree) & what has occurred to a popular social media poster Luke Phillips "Dig It Detecting" in Victoria.
Usually I don't like these online petitions but I think this is important. It could occur in any state given the legislation in most states could be interpreted to be used against us if relevant departments decided to become as over zealous as they have in Victoria.

You've got to wonder about the mentality of some of these officials. What passes through their mind when common sense goes out the window. For a start there were obviously a group of individuals void of the usual level of intelligence that were responsible for passing the 2017 legislation in the first place. Maybe some of those responsible for these regulations are ignorant of the potential impact of the decisions they make. After all most people are just in a job for financial reward so they have little interest in the outcome of their actions.

Hopefully caring people like Luke Phillips can influence enough of the population to help educate those ignorant few who make these important decisions. I'd like to see him get the support needed to overturn these stupid rules.

i have been led to believe (from a mate in vic) that heritage victoria put a bulldozer and excavator through a heritage listed site not long ago pushed all the artefacts in a heap
apparently more news to come soon

it may be do as i say not as i do o_O:rolleyes:

What will be next, those that dig away mullock heaps on Historical Mining site my end up in the same boat.

If you dig a hole you should back fill, correct. then if you tear down a mullock heap do you think they should place the dirt back ? whats your thoughts

Yes this happened at glenrowan years back a man picked up a piece of a patterned plate, when he heard what do you think you are doing, he said just picked up a piece of crockery, he said i am from heritage victoria and put it back where you found it or risk a ten thousand dollar fine, half an hour later a truck and loader pulled up and they loaded all the dirt into tip truck, he said wheres this going , they replied the benalla tip, at the time they filled the 100yr plus drain where the kelly seage was, they dont make any common sense to me, university educated idiots in my view

Here is a speech Luke Phillips gave at the recent National Detecting day held at Lucky Strike Gold Geelong. His passion for and knowledge of all things related to coin and relic hunting is well worth the time to watch.

It is crazy the bureaucrats want to restrict our hobby and not let us dig up the past to unearth our own history. 75 years is such a short time to declare an item an artefact. I have filled in the form and wish Luke all the best sticking up for us all.

Yes it is wokeness in the extreme. Unfortunately this stuff has been creeping in insidiously for decades. It is more unsettling on the population than covid. The saddest thing is that we never ever voted for the garbage they ((whoever "they" are) have inflicted upon us.

Another step to locking us all out of the bush with restrictions on our activities.Covid was a strange one in regards to prospecting. Split the city people from the country people in Victoria with multiple on and off lockdowns. I live in the country and it was weirdly quiet driving around the forest and i even had to have a permit to go to work .Crazy times.

Just curious as I'm in nsw does your miners right not mean anything anymore especially if your fossicking for gold .and yes I have a Victorian miners right if I ever cross said border
Maybe we should all register as an archaeological group instead 🤣🤣

Technically the Miner`s right is only for Gold, gemstones and minerals. Relic hunting is as clear as mud with regards to needing a permit or not. In theory you shouldn`t need one but it depends on who you talk to or what departments rules you read. We talked about this somewhere here about 5 or 6 years` ago and there were quite a lot of views and opinions and rules quoted from different sources .Best to have the permit in the off chance you get pulled up by Parks Victoria or someone.

Why it ishappening,it's because of our apathy. How many of us has gone to his local MP to submit his view upon a any issue that infringes on our freedoms.

I have not done that personally but have supported causes along the way , signed petitions and sent them to pollies and marched in unison with like minded people on things that matter for bush users and hobbyists .The little man can only do so much.
