The Caboolture Historical Society has this padlock. We noticed that some of your members have an expertise in this area.

Is anyone able to identify this padlock for us.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

After further researching online I now have my doubts about it being a Jackson lock.

Thats what threw me Nugget no name......?

now to throw a cat amongst the pigeons.

The jackson locks that were in use 28 years ago at Long Bay correctional centre....some had jackson on them...a fair few newer ones had NSWCS plus no. eg 851 stamped on them. The real early ones had NSW PRISONS stamped on them.

They were still manufactured by Jacksons Tasmania.

Chubb also made a jacksons style lock.

there is the possibility that due to being a large government order all that was required was the dept name
being stamped on them instead of Jacksons.
As pentridge was also called Melbourne gaol in the early days it may solve the problem.

a quick google for padlocks melbourne A 50 returns a few queries for Jackon abus style 65/50 ? the mystery continues

Hi, with regard to the spelling on the lock, the guesses are as follows:

Nurefare
Nuefaro (Faro is in Portugal)
Nuofaro
Nuebale
Huebale
Huebalz

It is very hard to read.

Cheers Di
