Gidday Forum members..have been watching and reading for a while, and purchased an older minelab machine (goldenhawk) to "learn the trade"..
First trip to Durikai a couple of weekends ago, met a bloke who had found a 4 g which got the juices running..-I was successful with a nail and an old fish can opener, plus a piece of wire and a rusty can... :D (but at least the process worked)..tried around a local MTB track and found bullets and brass cases so I'm forever hopeful! Thanks to all who have parted with some great information for beginners, hopefully I'll have something good to show one day!

There will be plenty of junk picked up in this new hobby of yours, just think of it as a way of cleaning up Australia because thats how I feel every time i go out as well. The golden hawk seems to similar to the F1A4 mine detector but its a VLF. Like to hear how it goes keep us posted. :)

Jaros..was a bit wet in places further in, (but it was the weekend after Marcia).. there had been quite a lot of digging before I got there in the runoffs...but the tops were reasonable dry. I'm going to try and get back there in the next fortnight ..the chap I talked to out there was mentioning "mineralisation" caused by the wet.. (a lot of false signals?)...so with a bit of luck it has dried off a bit for my next visit.
