Just like to say G'Day to every one. :)

I have been into the prospecting scene on and off for as long as I can remember.
It has always fascinated me on how the old timers did what they did to win the yellow stuff from the ground.
I have seen shafts cut straight down through solid rock, as square as you would find today using our more modern methods and they did it all by hand.
The history and some of the stories from a bygone era and what some tenacious old miners went through also built this mighty country we call Australia. :) :)
.
During my prospecting times I have owned a few detectors and various types of equipment.
And I love it.
Getting out in the bush away from the rat race, Discovering a new site and then feeling the history, priceless. Bit hard at times walking onto an old town site knowing that at one stage 5000 people lived and worked here yet all that is left is a few jumbled piles of rock in the bush.
.
My passion has been re-ignited. :) :)
After attending my nephews wedding up near Nerriga NSW, The bug has bit again. I have been rather slowly building a modified 4Runner to go bush in so I will have to make a bit of room to stow the
prospecting gear in as well. LOL
Yep, Gonna build a Sluice from the excellent plans on this site. Gonna love that.
anyway,
Cheers to all and look forwards to meeting you out there one day.
(Maybe I will find that elusive retirement nugget, coin cash, hidden and lost miners tote, LOL)

Cheers,
Doug

Welcome Doug! I hope you do find that retirement nugget you speak of as they say there is more gold out there undiscovered than what has already been pulled out of this mineral rich country, I look forward to your progress on the sluice and make sure you keep us posted!
Regards
BigSam

Hi Sam,
I am sure looking forwards to getting back into it. :)
I have a few "secret" private high spots already sorted in some really good area's down here and up on the Monaro.
Some of these places have not had any one on them for at least 100 years.
Yep, The old Australian barter system works well. LOL
Places like Black Range near Bega, Up around Delegate NSW, and a rello now up near Nerriga.
I also know of a few places near by that with a bit of a hike will produce some nice colour as well.
I sussed out these places nearly 35 years ago and they produce well. :) :)
.
Main thing is even if I do bring some colour home, It is the fact of getting out there and doing it.
.
See you out there.

the fact you have reverence and respect for the old timers says alot about you

sounds like you are a good thinker with a decent bit of awareness and those are very useful qualities for a gold digger ( of the mineralogical kind )

what areas are you thinking of sluicing / highbanking ?

Welcome yo the forum Doug and great to have you on board. Sounds like you've got the prospecting bug well an truly rekindled. Great region down your way with plenty of potential for those willing to put in the yards. Hope you find the forum unique and look forward to chatting amongst the posts.

Best of luck and look forward to catching up on the stream some day,

Cheers Wal.

G'Day Mate,
All around that area. I was nearly going to go and live there. Buetifull Country and wonderfull people.
Getting married down here soon put an end to that. LOL
There is a lot of history up in them thar hills.
I know some people that have some quite good records and believe it or not. Memories of what was there.
What the chinaman did to win gold was out of this world. Their is a lot of evidence in places that you would not even think was there.
But he was first. LOL
Oh, I fish and know my stuff. :) :)

Oh,
My Mother was born in Bendigo Hospital and was raised at Larnacourie.
She is a Grimmett.
Her family then lived across from the Fire Station where the motel is now.
My Aunty and Uncle lived west from Golden Square. There is an oval beside where the house was.
My Auntie come out one morning to find their front steps gone.
Just a big black hole.
Yep, Mine shaft. The house was demolished to cap the shaft under it. They always wondered why it was so cold. PMSL.
My uncle decided to erect a fence using star pickets one day.
He lined the star picket up and started hitting it in.
You guessed it.
It disappeared. There was a timber capped shaft in the back yard. Now filled in.
Oh the good old days.
And last thing, A well known friend picked up a nugget in front of the post office while the foot path was being replaced a few years ago.
That even made the news over here in Bega. :) :)
I know the Bendigo area quite well.

Welcome Doug. Great place Tathra. Used to live there in the 70's when I was a policeman in Bega. Owned the house beside the RFS shed on Bega Street. I will be down there (Kalaru) in April for my mates daughters wedding (David Beck) would love to catch up for a chin wag if I can prise myself away from Becky and Mickt Meaker. When the private messaging opens up for you send me a message if you are interested.

You would have known my father, Les the mechanic and I take it you would have known Horrie.

Small world isn't it. :) :)

Hi Headsup.
Some bloody good post from you too. :) :)
Geography was (and still is) one of my favorite hobbies.
I am going to build a Walbanker. :) To good to pass up. :) :)
There is a place not far from here, Doctor George Mountain that still has a few chimney's standing in the bush. All of that area is now bloody National Parks except for a small corner that is State Forest.
Permit, Here I come. LOL

THX,
Doug

Doug, yes to both. I to am interested in the old prospecting ways, so I will try and catch up in April.

Yes mate. LOL
In that general area. There was a lot of activity around Mumbula including some "Forgotten" area's.
The place I sussed is a trudge for a bit down a small creek. It showed well.
If you could fight the leach's off in time.LOL
Including the death adders. And that is if you did not fall down a hole.
Good Fun
