Hey there! My name's August (or will be soon - changing my name for personal reasons). I just started my Bachelor's in Geology at the University of Adelaide, though I live down near Victor Harbor (transit's a pain the butt)! I'm honestly more interested in gemstones than gold, I've read a fair amount of the posts on gems in SA already but I haven't actually even been out other than my local beach which is just full of quartz, any tips would be greatly appreciated

Look forward to talking with you guys, good luck out there! :gemstone:

Hi Charoal, welcome to PA. I bought my Gpx5000 from a retired gent in Victor Harbor, and my inlaws live there too.

I know the guy I bought it from had used it a few times at the beach there, but he did say that there wasn't much else around that way worth detecting, unless you are into relic hunting and know somewhere that might be promising. He did most of his gold detecting interstate from memory, as I believe SA has not been bestowed much of the yellow stuff unfortunately. I know Nenad from Phase Technical is located in SA and he does some detecting somewhere over there, but I believe it's slim pickings. Good luck in your searching though, and I hope you do well in your Geology course. It would certainly be a handy qualification to have!

Gday Charcoal. Welcome to the forum. I think Euchunga had some spots where there were gems found. Problem with our state S.A. most of the land is privately owned which makes our hobby difficult.

Anyway good to have you on board.

Thanks guys! Yeah Wishfull - Jupiter Creek in Echunga was somewhere I'm thinking of having a look around (and possibly the general area around Mylor, I lived there for a bit), as well as Mount Crawford... Apparently there was a small amount of alluvial gold on Granite Island in Victor Harbor itself but not sure on that one. Do you guys know if people are usually very receptive to allowing you to fossick on their property? :gemstone:
