What can I say, I'm a retired machinist after 47 years, took up prospecting 3 years ago. I baby set my 4 year old granddaughter full time. The reason for joining this forum is because I have been contemplating building a new high banker, and ran across this one on youtube, Wals' Hi-banker. It is so cool looking, that I would like to copy it, but the cable tray like he used is not available in the US so far as I can find. Might have to make my own with a drill, and file. Anyway I look forward to learning how prospecting is done in Australia. G day to all.

G'day Jimmydolittle, I saw the picture of the gold you found. Looking good. I wish all the best with your prospecting endeavors and welcome aboard. :)

Welcome to the forum Jimmy. Hope you find what youre looking for here. I am sure Wal can give you some advice. Some great guys here and we love to chat and chew the fat haha.

Hi Jimmy
not to sure how to help you with the tray, but most electrical places here in Aust. have them
Have you tried the big electrical joints where you live?
if push comes to shove PM me and i can ship one to you, but i wouldn't know the cost to do it
i'll look into it tho
i have a length 300mm wide X 1200mm long or their about

Gday Jimmy, welcome to the forum and may your golden moments you share with your Grand daughter be reflected in your pan.

The cable tray should not be hard to find, it is a pretty common building material the world over.

Cheers, Tone

Thank you all for the warm welcome, I have taken Zoe with me twice, and she likes it for about 15 minutes then she's ready to do something else. It's an hour drive to the creek where we go. I'll take a look at some of the electrical distributors when I have the time. I have all winter to build this new toy, here is a picture of the trommel I built, still trying to get all the bugs worked out of her.

Nice, backcreek. Will you have a sluice under it? That's Mike Kline's plans, I have them downloaded, but haven't yet built one.

Here is a picture of my highbanker that I'm using now. The hopper has a basket that I can dump after it has washed 2 shovel full of dirt. (The old fat man at work)

Welcome to the forum jimmy. The classifier can be any material and the punch plate in your trommel would work just fine. The only reason i use electrical tray is for the weight factor, as we need to carry our bankers some distance for the better gold.

Once you start the build send me a PM and i can talk you through the different screens and expanded meshes to suit your area. There's also a certain way to cut out the crate section which if you don't get right won't work correctly. If you decide on a slotted spray bar there's also a specific length for the slots to give correct water pressure.

I hope you enjoy reading the forum threads and I'm sure you will find The Ozzy gold prospecting quite similar to the States. Best of luck and look forward to chatting on the threads.

Cheers Wal. :)

The gold in Indiana is fine flour gold. The biggest I've found is probably a -20, and down to -200. I have a piece of steel punch plate with 1/2" squares, I bought to make the barrel of the trommel out of, but I didn't like it after trying to roll it. You can see a piece of it on the back shield of the chain drive. Probably could use that for classifier.

1/2" is OK Jimmy but don't go any bigger. Check out the DIY Project section and there is quite a bit of info on the build available there. If you have any queries just ask over in that section and I'll talk you through them.

If you send me a PM once you have 10 posts up I can elaborate more on the finer points of the build.

Cheers Wal,
