Hi guys...i found a weird 10c piece the other day, detecting, not being a coin expert, what is it? is it worth anything?basically, it has a raised edge (if thats the right term) on both sides of the coin..it looks and 'feels' different from a regular 10c,it may even be minutely smaller also....anyway, heres a couple of pics, taken with my phone..dont have a mag glass or loop,so i hope it comes out :)...anyway, any info on it would be interesting, cheers :)

I think it's caused by putting the coin in a dryer and letting it spin the heat softens it and the sides flare out add it goes round I've heard of it before

sounds plausible :)..tho, i would have thought it would have expanded the coin..this coin can fit inside the normal 10 c piece...

I'd be calling a coin dealer to find out.

i think your spot on the money..doubt it would be worth anything, its just a little oddity to me,just be cool to know if its a mistake coin or otherwise..cheers :)

Could somebody have been trying to make a ring out of it.I mean like tapping with a hammer on an anvil whilst turning it.It looks to be smooth on the edge.If it fits inside another 10 cent piece then it has gotten smaller, which is what would happen if tapped with a hammer.

to tell you the truth, that was my first thought, as it is as smooth as a baby's butt around the edge..but then, why not finish the job?, lol :)..also inspecting it closer, (with the naked eye, granted), the writing seems ever so smaller when compared to a regular 10c..i dont know..i,ll just get it looked at by someone who would know..its a 1982 coin, did a google, cant find anything.. a 10c mule, maybe?:), lol...

It could be on a wrong blank, it has been known to happen and if that is the case it is worth a few dollars. Mule as you say?

Not sure who else we mint for at the moment or when that coin was made. There are plenty of other currencies with similar size blanks.

Check the weight against a standard 10c first that way you can tell if it is the same coin and after mint damage?

yes, there is a slight weight difference...5.59 vs 5.67 to the "normal " 10c piece....
