Dug halfway to China only to discover the faint signal on a deep nugget was a faint signal on a piece of garbage :)
I've convinced myself the workout was healthy so the process will probably be repeated soon enough :)

I have dig a faint signal that turned in to a screamer at 500mm deep to find a rusty pick head.
And I will most likely do it again lol

see my post in the whites thread, ball bearing the size of a small cannon ball.

I thought I was onto a winner with this one. 600mm :(

Sorry ColinD, I got a PM from SunriseBoy about this target but his inbox is full.

EMPTY YOUR INBOX SB.

G'day SunriseBoy.

I was using a GPX 4500 with a 14'' Elite. The depth was due to the coil. It's a great bit of kit and a must have coil IMO. The signal was clear and obvious. No one would have missed it. Could have picked it up with another 100-200mm depth no sweat.

Cheers, NG.

I once dug a hole in (actually in) Halls Creek at the site of the original rush only to waste 2 hours in 35 degrees for a bloody harness ring.
It was down over 600mm and I thought I was in and would never have to work again.
DOH. I have had hundreds of similar experiences since with most being fuggets. :8

Yep, the old half horse shoe literally sitting at the side of the hole I was digging. The signal got better and better and I was 100% sure I was digging virgin compacted ground, the further I chipped down, the better the signal. Spent a good hour on that hole, on my knees with blistered hands. It was only when the hole was big enuff for the coil to fit, I made the horrifying discovery of the horse shoe literally hanging on the inside of the wall of the hole!!! Id been digging to China and the target was just to the side.

Nice Cricket Buckle, would be almost as good as a gold find if fully intact. :)

After the disappointment of it not being a nugget had passed. I cleaned it up with the last of my water and I was pretty happy with my find. It wasn't till I got home that I discovered that it was a buckle. I must say, I don't mind the odd old timers relic :D
Glad you like it GP :)
