Six alpacas have been shot and killed at a property in Queenslands Southern Downs region in what police are describing as a disturbing act of animal cruelty.

Police were called to a Glen Aplin property on Saturday after the owner discovered five of his animals dead and another critically injured. It was later euthanised.

Disturbingly this is the second incident of shooting deaths involving alpacas on rural properties with seven killed at Lyra last September, Senior Constable Jim Ellis said on Sunday.

Its believed the animals were shot on Wednesday or Thursday using a small calibre firearm.

This sort of thing pi**es me off, big time. The a**holes are probably strutting around thinking they are some kind of big game hunters.
Maybe we should all have to pass an IQ test or something before we are allowed anywhere near a firearm. Makes me angry every time I hear about this stuff.
NOTE: I used to hunt wild pig, foxes and rabbits in my youth. Some of the things I saw others doing back then turned me off hunting. I sold all my weapons years ago and I don't miss them one bit!

Totally agree with the phyc test. In my youth I enjoyed going out for shot. I only hunt gold and fish now.
There is some nutters out there that go nuts when they have a gun in there hands. I've seen it for myself, Dr jeckle!

This is gutting, I really feel for the owners, what a bloody waste!! When we were in Young we bred Grey and Black Alpacas, showed them at the Royals and won a few ribbons.

As an animal the are gentle, intelligent guardians, woe betide a fox that approaches, they'll kill them, dogs they don't know similarly making then excellent guardians for lambing flocks.

People who can't wear wool can wear Alpaca and being a Camelid, soft feet so low impact on the environment and survive well on harsh country. I love these animals and this disgusts me as also many of you guys.

I hope they find the murderers and hang them!!! as hell!

Sounds like there's a potential MO that would give detectives something to look at. These types of people annoy me all in the name of their warped ideal of what's right or wrong according to them. I hope these scumbags get what they deserve.

Don't know about that Silver there's some strange people who don't touch drugs that have a grudge against any competition of their existence. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the modern chemistry clients if they did choose to use firearms I think it'd be a different story altogether.

My Sister and Late Brother-in-law know 2 B&B owners out Stanthorpe way and this has happened to them both. .. And now their Neighbours...

That was the reason why the latest you saw last night was on the News... Cause the Cops said Nothing about previous Killings to the Media.(No Comment was their response when asked).. So the latest victims have gone Public, to spur the local cops to do something....

There is also a Large number of Pagan's out there, but all these killings have occurred on the owners property so that rules them out... Well I would think so anyhow...

Interesting info LoneWolf. From what you have said so far it seams there is a bit more to than is being let on. It would be interesting to know if there are any stud alpaca breeders in the area?

Harsher penalties for these *******s. There was the incident in WA a while back in which a man stabbed a womans dog to death in a park after it came over to say Hello. He got nothing more than a fine and was on his merry way. If it were my pooch he would have never made it to the court room.

While I dont condone that sort of behaviour in any way shape or form I have seen many instances of people moving to the country for a tree change only to have them try to push their ideals on the people whove been farming there for generations. Now Im not saying this is the case or the right way to go about it if it is but, I have seen new people to the area arguing that there dog was only playing while harassing livestock. Been warned multiple times about it and then raising entitlement hell when it gets shot. Doesnt sound like this is the case but just saying theres always another side to the story, not just drugged out gun owners.

I'm hearing you Bjay but I highly doubt it's the scenario you've mentioned. LW'S local knowledge coments are enough for me to know it's not as you commented. Looks to me there's a warped local with extreme judgement against anyone who dares to stray from their supposed ideal of what takes place in the community, just saying.

Theres 100 ways to kill an animal , it peas me off these cowards used a gun and dont understand its another cross in a box against the people that need firearms in their daily lives for responsible reasons.

If you own firearms please invest more money in their security, because they usually are taken in break and enters.

When it comes down to firearms incidents it doesn't take ice or any other drugs to make people do stupid things when it comes to firearms unfortunately. Like you said thankfully 99.9% (of registered firearms owners) do the right thing behaving and using firearms responsibley. In reality no matter how much legislation is put in place unscrupulous people with firearms will cause issues.
