Newbie here...been fossicking since 2005 on and off. Due to dropping off from management job, I have more free time in my hands. I go fossicking weekdays or weekends, dependingvof my days off.
Used to go with wife and kids, but could not do much fossicking, as they were not interested, so now going alone!
I had limited success with finding gold or gems.
Few small sapphires and specs of gold.
Went from Tuena creek area to sofala, Ophir etc...for gold and Northern NSW for gems.
I use pans, slice, and a basic small detector at this stage.

While on my days off ,I only go in the Bathurst/Orange/ Tuena/ Braidwood areas, I m looking for a fortnight trip to Tibooburra in Jan 23...Hoping to find someone to join in too as it is fairly remote.

In addition to fossicking , I love fishing, Camping and hiking. I spent few days in the outback last January, Including hiking in the Mutawintji National park.

Welcome to the Forum Frenchy. You will find plenty of info on here to get you amongst the gold and gems. I see you mentioned you might look at going to Tibo in January. Can I suggest you reconsider this date as the temp out there around then can get over 40 degrees and you will not enjoy the trip at all swinging a detector.

I've recently done an article on Tibo under the Gold Detecting section. You may get some info from this thread to help you better enjoy what Tibo has to offer. Good luck...Wal.

Thx for the tip. I am aware that s the hotest and wettest month of the year. Unfortunately January is my holidays slot... I was there last January hiking ( Mutawintji national park) but had no pan or metal detector with me at the time...if not, i ll pushed to Tibo....

January is the hottest but not the wettest...mainly bone dry around that time. Only suggested a different time as you asked would there be anybody else interested in joining you around that time. I honestly don't think you would get any interest from others to join you in January.

According to various online sources, January is the wettest...doesn't mean you get much rain anyway .
While I would welcome company. I have no issue going on my own if needed.

You like a lot on here have gold fever. It’s a great hobby and a good way to explore our beautiful country. I’m Sydney based and have fossicked in the areas you have mentioned. From my experience I suggest you investigate your Tibooburra trip for January. Tibooburra is a remarkable place to explore, but January would be very warm. I usually visit in mid winter when the daytime temp is in the low to mid 20s and nights down to around 0. You say that you have a basic detector? Gold found around Tibooburra is usually small, this necessitates using a specialised detector capable of locating sub gram gold.
I hope my comments haven’t been too discouraging. As I stated, the Tibooburra area is unique and well worth the trip, but it can also be a very harsh environment in which to fossick. Good luck.
