I am an old newbie. I am up in Nth Qld ,Townsville actually, where its usually hot and sticky or hot and dry. I am a retired Builder / Commercial site foreman. I seem to have an abundance of free time and get bored doing nothing, so to keep busy and stay reasonably fit into my seventies I am going out camping and fossicking and loving it. I am planning on doing some highbanking and also some crevicing up around Greenvale ,Georgetown and west of Charters towers.
if any local guys can help with hints and setup suggestions I am all ears.

Since when is a highbanker considered machinery. Some official ****** in NSW deemed a pump machinery and the rest of the country is expected to follow suit , not likely.

It was actually illegal (or more to the point being enforced) in QLD prior to the NSW ban.
Use of a pump is also prohibited in Tasmania.
Victoria is the only Eastern State where you can legally use a motorised pump.

Now the Qld/ NSW border is open, I intend to travel to NSW gold mining places in March. Ive bought a Garrett set to prospect during my travels.

One set of my great great grandparents married in Forbes in 1862 and had children in Bathurst and Lithgow. Theirs, and my paternal great great grandparents travels, led to the Charters Towers region during its gold rush. My grandfather was a gold miner in Kidston. I want to know more of the gold mining history of the places where they lived.
