Hope I'm not asking a question that's been done like an overcooked steak, but I'm confused, and in need of some help. I'm just on the verge of buying my first detector but as I'm completely new to the whole detector and looking for gold, I don't want to waste money on a unit that's too hard to get used to and give it up, so am looking at a unit up to a grand, that's easy enough to learn, light and can be used on grounds around central Vic and high country, it's come to two units that seem to be the common talk, gold racer and gold monster. Can't find anywhere in the geelong region to look at the racer. Help :(

Both can find gold, but both will excel in milder soils, as with all high freq VLFs.

The Gold Monster can be literally switch on and go, Auto ground balance and auto Sensitivity if you wish. It is rain proof which does come in handy.

The Gold Racer is a lot more adjustable, so a longer learning curve, but ultimately more flexible. Disc modes with adjustable discrimination and Target ID means you can use it for coin/relic detecting as a side.

Gold Racer is now $875, but only 1 coil. $178 gets you a 5" or 7x4" elliptical coil which work great at pinging the tiny bits.
Or if you can stretch the budget to $1125, the Gold Kruzer comes with 2 coils as standard, and wireless headphones and is also 5m waterproof.

Cheers, Nenad

As it turns out I've just built a mates man cave and he bought the racer for me for doing it, but it's only got the elliptical coil, i wouldn't mind getting the 5 inch round just for a bit of diversity. Problem is I've looked on the phase website but can't find it. Anyone got a link?

email Nenad (PhaseTech) direct! he's a great bloke
