Thanks MJB !
That's a nice unit, perfect for one man operation. Awesome build you did there with it ! I agree smaller ones are a bit over priced for their capacity . If one has the skill and material to build such equipment, why buy one, doubles the fun on the build, you get the gold with a unit you made yourself, extremely satisfying ;)

These pics of bigger ones I saw, one is my friend's local built unit. Metal fabrication shops make them in quantities but they aren't cheap, though !
The second pictures shows one run by electric, required a generator, hence the many electric cords on the fore ground.

I am building a small bellows dry washer, I prefer the quietness and less dust of it's working ;) Less noise means you can work without grabbing attention of other miners, so your (spot) remains out of the reach of the crowds :D

Wow ! you sure did a great job with old mullock heaps (I suppose that means tailing piles, right?) ! your summer conditions are perfect for dry washer operations, I agree again with you that every prospector should own one, for the times/areas where there is shortage of water to run a highbanker/sluice.

Looks like a light weight / portable unit, cool design mate ! I recon this can be run where there is restrictions on using motorized equips or you do like to exercise your arms and muscles (kidding) :D
Brings pictures of ole timers technology !

Actually built to fit into a smaller tin tool box weight is about 13kg so not real difficult to carry' and was very surprised how well and easy it operates, this build was for sampling but moves enough dirt, I'm not going to bother building a larger unit now.

This video shows how small miners use dry blowers in Northern Sudan. They tested it for placer loose material, and hard rock crushed ore as well as old tailings from hard rock mining operations. In any case it recovered gold , albeit the difference in the material they run. In the video they reduce one ton of dirt into approximately two kilos of concentrate. They recovered a few nuggets also there is some pickers and a little of fine gold particles. This is from less than an hour of work. At the end of the clip you can see how the gold camps at work, jaw crushers and milling machines.

Looks like a very solid build, Nightjar ! May I ask if you can recall the dimensions of the dry blower you built? any technical specifications or material list (if any) that you used to build this interesting dry washer? I know the time has past over it but it could be an inspiration to someone who tries to mimic it ;)

Nightjar, I found an American book that refrences similar working equipments in Nevada, U.S. Might be interesting to see these designs from the past.
