Not long retired and am looking forward to some detecting on the beaches around Mornington Peninsula. I would also like to have a go at gold when I understand just how to use the detector. I am not sure what detector to buy at this stage, was looking at Gold Bug 2, or a Minelab. not sure what to do. Could anyone point me in the right direction on a good starting detector around $1500 or so. We have a caravan and would like to travel around a bit trying my hand at panning and detecting. We like the outdoors so whether we find anything or not, it would still be fun trying. I have been a fisherman for many years and know only to well that good catches are few and far between.
