I panned this sizeable gem yesterday. Weighs in at 0.75ct the piece of gold is 0.08g and was panned from the same hole. I have called it for a zircon but I don't really know that much about rocks.

If it is a zircon, are they usually associated with other gemstones that I should be keeping an eye out for?

Great looking stone Ben. Any chance of seeing some light put through it? Hopefully someone will be able to identify it for you.

G'day Ben,

The stone is possibly a zircon ...but looking at the fracture plane It's more likely to be a garnet. Zircons are quite often associated with Sapphires...where Garnets are only occasionally associated with Sapphire deposits. The Garnet is certainly of "Gem" quality.....But I'll take the bit of gold mate ;) Cheers Wal. :)
