I am 75, retired, live in W.A. Great Southern.
I have ,on and off detected since 1965.
Started with an old BFO relic from the war.
And since have been hooked, had White, Fisher, Explorer 2, E-trac and now Equinox 800.
Looking forward to learn more. and share.

Hi Wishfull

No , unfortunately I haven't kept it, I couldn't fing the mini valves used for it, and the batteries were totaly rotten, had to make some, 110V and 6V.
But, I look at the time I had it as very nostalgic.

Hi grubstake

BFO stand for Beat Frequency Oscillator.
During the War metal detector were Valve jobs, large batteries to feed the valves, in my model, it was an american SCR-625-H.
The coil was quite large. to use it you had to switch on, wait a few minutes for the valves to warm up and the detector to stabilise,
then you had to tune it, a bit like a treshold, just audible and start to swing, you had to pay attention to the drift in your treshold due to
the valves drifting in frequency, had to retune often. You didn't had the depth we have now, but it was good, found lots of old German stuff
from the battle field behind the casern in Rastatt, where I was stationned in the 60's.

Hi Jaros

Thank you for your welcome, I already learned a lot of things reading all those very interesting posts.

In general I detect alone, not because I am antisocial, but because I always go when its dark and I can let my mind drift.

In general I go for a couple of hours, and when I go back home I am all refreshed.

Because I live in a town who has been "trashed" by other detectorists (I have been told, all the good stuff has been found)
, I specialised in looking for the real deep stuff.

Have a great day

Guru
