Hello to all at PA.
Yes, I'm a newbie to detectoring. Have started off with a Garrett AT Gold. My budget limited my starting point. Liked the idea of the All Metal Mode with iron audio.
Have been out a couple of times in the Golden Triangle and finding plenty of 22 bullets and foil. Figure this is a good sign. Really have been just scouting around and doing a lot of online research ...... I here the words of research, research and more research.
Anyone had any experience with the AT Gold? Cheers Dig'n-it.

Keep at it if your finding bullets you will get some eventually i havent used the at gold but have used a few others on the goldfields
Concentrate on areas with a lot of trash as most minelabbers avoid places like that

I like the AT Gold. If the ground isn't too bad it's a good machine. I upgraded and so I only use it for coins and relics now, which it does quite well at. The discrimination is quite decent.

Went out last Saturday to the Golden Triangle. Really just wanted to get the lay of the land around Waanyarra, Dunolly and Moliagul. Still only dig'n bullets, buttons, foil. It was real interesting dig'n in different soils. It was amazing that moving a few hundred meters and I'd find different ground. Found patches with a lot of hot rocks and hot soil clumps. I found flat slatey type flat hot rock that when snapped in half showed a rich red color. Had clumps of soil that registered but as I broke the clump down the signal slowly degraded until I had nothing. To me it was just hot soil. It was a real learning curve.

I used the iron audio feature on every signal. If it grunted I didn't dig. I tested this feature with test samples of coins, iron, aluminium can pull tab, and a gold ring. I even buried targets to compare how they sounded. The gold ring didn't grunt so figured any gold wouldn't grunt. Anyone got any experience with the iron adio feature, and do I have this right? I am concerned that I may be overlooking gold if I don't dig when the signal grunts.

Cheers
