Hello everyone,

My name is Brendan and I've spent some time on this site in the past researching and reading all the gems of knowledge to be found here. I have found you all to be a very informative and jolly bunch (surprising given the historically secretive and lonely profession prospecting can be) It's great to see a community banding together to help each other out. Whether it's a hobby, life long passion or one has just recently caught the fever.

I'm located on the cudgegong (near the town of Rylstone) and have some land in the bylong valley. I'd love to meet up with some people local to these areas to try our hand at some of the local creeks from Mudgee to mt airly and across to Sofala.

I look forward to hearing from some of you and meeting even more in the fields. Happy hunting!

I also have a strong passion for Australian history and items of antiquity/historical relevance which has led me to the prospect of purchasing a low cost metal detector to start playing around with. Any recommendations on something equivalent to the Aldi machine I've seen about or anyone with a second hand one for sale, give us a yell :)

Gday Breakingthebank
The Mrs and I have property (houses) in Wellington we often visit the area.
Your about 30 minutes from Mudgee if Im not mistaken.. Check out cental west prospecting in Mudgee.
Friendly people and approachable.. One of the forum members works there.

Welcome Breakingthebank, welcome to PA Ihope you find heaps when you get started. Can you tell us about some of the items you have collected, I collect old things as well, most people say I hoard junk

Cheers, DD

Thanks Nucopia! I found the place on Saturday but they were closed so I'll make another trip in soon enough.

Cheers chewy it's a pleasure to be here

Digger Danny, I've collected everything from early Australian antiquarian books (favourite being Wanderings in NSW by G Bennett 1836) to once finding a knighthood manuscript and royal seal in this old leather box that was given to an Australian for his work as 'Australia's leading head surgeon' named Sir Maitland. A couple of years ago I traded this guy in far north Qld some crystals I had in my car for a terminated quartz crystal in a metal setting with obvious patina/ age and when I took it home there was wood shavings that I scraped out of the inside of the setting. It looks exactly like the type of thing you would imagine to find by a staff carrying shaman. He said to have found it in this old ceramic type pot full of dirt at a house he once rented. The things you come across if you keep your eyes open!

G'day Breakingthebank, I collect just about any thing that comes my way, some items are, forges, smithy vice, smithy tools, milk cans, cow/horse bells, butchers tools, meat slicer, axes, cross cut saws, rabbit traps, bottles, any and many old tools and much more if you know what I mean. Thats why people say I am a HOARDER.

Cheers, DD
