My wife is more interested in what colour something is, or if it looks pretty.

Me, I'm only interested in one thing with most devices - Does it work !!!

I'm on your wifes side :)

Hey Condor.
We just taking the piss out of each other after a fun weekend.
Im probably not the right person to ask regarding the SDC's true abilities. I've got 4 hours on the ground with it up against the ATX with probably 50 hours ground time.
Both machines hold their own place. I bought the SDC based on its versatility, compact size and "resonable" price. Im not able to get out as often as I would like so I needed a virtually "plug & play" detector. Ive driven a 5000. Man what an education. You need dedicated hours to learn how to run the machine to its full potential, something most of us mere mortals dont have. Its a great compliment to my SD. Bottom line......so far so good. If I walk over it....it'll see it. Its that sensitive. It fits in my backpack, I dont need to wire myself up like a christmas tree and its pretty lightweight......im happy !!!
As you can see from the pic I fitted up a set of legs to it for stability and off you go
Cheers
Chris

This thread gave me a giggle .. I'm on the atx " green "side . It's not about how many the sdc will find its about weight .I'd rather dig 50 holes with the atx than dig 150 with the sdc . . :p

Thanks Stalker, found another atx supporter lol. I'm too getting tired digging all the lead in trashed areas. 100:1 it gets frustrating yes but I'm not visiting the landfill just yet.

In all seriousness, as Chris said both detectors are more than capable :) finding the virgin patch and or swinging over the gold target is what we need. PS: Chris I'll let you go first next time mate - it's your turn to christen your new toy.

Happy hunting everyone :)

Thanks for the reply, I think I've made up my mind since I asked and I'll explain why.

I'm not buying the SDC or the ATX, the reason; I have a 5000, the smallest coil in my arsenal is the 8" Commander. My first impression was the SDC would find what the 5000+8" might not, however I'm more inclined to try the 5000+6" Goldstalker (<$200) for real small gold. The difference, probably not a lot in capability, but about $3,800 in cost.

As far as something for the wife to use on the rare occasions she will use a detector and to give me VLF capability as well as PI, I am inclined to buy the Minelab X-Terra 705 Duel Pack for $990. This way, spending about $1,200, I get a 2nd detector, something for the wife to use, a VLF, the smallest coil the 5000 can take and a waterproof coil on the X-Terra for the beach or creeks.

My greatest concern with the SDC is that it is an expensive almost single purpose detector (no coil alternatives) that will probably do little if anything more than a 5000 + 6" mono, not counting the waterproof part.

G'Day!

I also get a chuckle out of this and have to put up the hand for the GREEN Side
Still to Walk over a bit of yella yet .
Got to keep the faith
Swinging the Beeping Wand is a bit like Fishing lots of water in between
Dirt Fishing is much the Same lol

Cheers

The atx is the underdog . it's underrated overrated hated and loved. . But works the way it was Intended

ATX is for more scenarios... this is huge difference if you want more than gold prospecting.... you have iron check, discrimination and two more coils. More versality unit ;) .... but heavier ;)

Condor, some people may have different view but if I had a GPX I probably wouldn't be looking at sdc or atx. Something light for my wife the occasional prospector. Did you look at Whites - Liz is using the TDI pro Oz and is doing really well ( both outcomes and handling the weight)

Cheers mate,

Man, all the Greens are coming out that's awesome , :) go the atx . I've done bit of detecting in the last 20 years and bought the new sd2000 when it first came out. As a casual prospector it was hard 20 years ago and a lot harder now for sure. But it keeps us going.

True Stalker, I don't love it, I don't sleep with it, I don't hate it- I just abuse it when I get the chance. :D

Who needs to go to the Gym? I recon by next year I'll have Arnold Swatznegers biceps :D without using steroids , as for the coils yes versatile but unaffordable for everyday Joe Blow like me. For me personally it was a step up from sd2000.

Can anyone give me comparisons between the 2 Detectors.. What wuse4dld you purchase?? I want to couple it to my existing CTX 3030 : used on Parks etc for coins etc
