wouldn't it be better for your health and some Aussie farmer to go down to coles and buy fresh Aussie berries???????

Just a suggestion!!!

Btw nuggetino what youve got pictured there looks like a variation of ruby saltbush, not sure if that variety is edible but I know some are. Show them to the botany dept. at the local uni and see if you can get a definate answer.

The gist of the discussion is that it was assumed they were Australian. read this article from todays news.com

70% of aussie pork is not??? Australian Pork Ltd told the inquiry that many consumers were unaware that 70 per cent of Australian made ham and bacon was made from imported pork.

so sort of defeats the mother-hood tatement 'buy australian'. No really???

even Barnaby agress "Mr Joyce said another review is underway and he would be pushing for proper labelling to be implemented as quickly as possible.

It would be good to buy aussie fruit but it would help if they hired Australian workers .Living in a growing area and being told your to old in your fiftys and Asians work better and don't complain .Is a bit much

The only way to support Australian growers is at a farmers market that sell certified organic, at least you know that it is locally grown, non gmo and chemically free. it does cost more but what is your health worth. here are some for Sydney people http://www.organicfoodmarkets.com.au/index.php#.VORqmSl8O-I . And if you like lamb I found this site http://www.findafarmer.com.au/farmer-or-local-producer/mudgee-lamb why give money to the big supermarkets it should go to our farmers and local growers.
I try to use local and Aussie made as much as possible . http://www.ausbuy.com.au/buy-the-guide.html?&no_cache=1 :)

Disclaimer I am not affiliated with any of the above mentioned companies.

If anyone still has a packet in the freezer, take them back to where you bought them, they will refund the $10 immediately as product has been recalled.
Don't just throw them in the bin like they say on the news, 10 bucks is 10 bucks

Unfortunately bazz raspberries and blueberries are out of season atm so frozen is the only way to get them.
Im more concerned for the wife since she was the one that ate them not me, however if by a tiny chance she has been less than dilligent in her personal hygiene then it possible that I could have it too.
I buy fresh berries when their in season and mostly from the local farmers market because the quality is better.
Thanks spikegold, 10 bucks is one thing but I think nannas are going to have to fork out a bit more than that to the unfortunate people already infected. With luck that wont include the wife and I.

Not that many moons ago the mob I worked for decided to buy Oranges from California.
So the buyer was sent over there a pre paid for 100's of hectares for the next decade.
The fruit gets picked in California and is loaded into giant bulk bins and sent to South East Asia.
Once in SEA it is graded, bad fruit discarded, packed into 20kg cartons and loaded onto pallets.
It then arrives in Melbourne and is quarantined for 2 weeks and transported by sub contractor to the Distribution Centre.
Order are then placed and it is hand picked and transported to stores.
This fruit is uniform in size, color, very juicy and tastes sensational.

All that is cheaper than buying oranges in Shepparton or Mildura.

To appease local growers their fruit was placed alongside on the shelves and always did not sell.

And that is only one line of fruit.
Once upon a time things were in and out of season. Not anymore. Just import.

Sorry guys - but I have to point out just exactly where the blame lies for this issue... three players:

  • The government[/*]
  • Coles[/*]
  • Woolies[/*]

Why is it cheaper to import oranges from Florida than it is to buy them from Mildura? The three organisations above.

Coles and Woolies have a duopoly and dictate to the farmer what they will buy and how much they will pay... do you know Aussie farmers receive less that .33 cents for a Kilo of oranges? Then they sell them for up to 20 times the price. They are in cahootz with each other (other countries call it price fixing) to make sure the price stays high ... and then indirectly oversees the importation of an inferior product they pay even less for and "package in Australia from local and imported ingredients" - the local product being water. The chinese export their product to places like tomatoes to Italy or New Zealand - where they are repackaged with "packaged in Italy from local and imported ingredients" and sent to Australia where they are put on the shelves right next to the overpriced Australian product. They make sure labels are difficult to read and know whether you choose either product they are the winner. Our farmers are getting shafted, the public is getting sick, and the three organisations above get the win and the greed.

When Australians have had enough they will force the government to make the duopoly illegal - allow other traders in - and bring competition and lower prices.

Until then - and this is no secret as we all know it to be true - turn on your Chinese TV, in your Chinese pajamas, and tuck into some mislabelled Chinese grown food and hope you feel OK the next day...

What I don't understand is why we don't import from the USA where there are health laws, cheaper prices, and quality food? Especially when it is also cheaper! I know - because China is our main trading partner - DOH!

well said Paulmarr

Unfortunately I'm reminded of an old saying :-

If you put a frog in boiling water he will jump out...

....however!

If you put him in cold water and gradually increase the temp to boiling point he'll stay and cook!!!!!!!

Do you feel the water getting hotter????

Woolies and Coles etc are down right crooks!

They get the producers and companies who want to sell in their stores pay for shelf space so really Coles and woolies can't loose, I've seen woolies reject pallets of dog food because the plastic at the bottom of the pallet is torn (the product is un touched), it's just madness, and WE let it happen, if is produce, electrical items or even bloody dog food.

Buying Aussie made/produced/grown etc from the chain stores is really difficult cause there is always a loophole exploited by ars***es

Cheers

Because the farmer in California gets huge subsidies from his Govt, so can sell his stock for next to nothing.

Maybe but I bet he gets more than .30 a kilo which is .25 US.

They also pay .60 a kilo retail for bananas as an everyday price and they don't even grow them while we pay $$$$ and they grow in the backyard. Just doesn't add up. Travel around the world a bit ... And you'll learn there is a big price to pay to live in our paradise.

Both the missus and I are watching our health now as she was halfway through a bag of nannas when this recall emerged, needless to say the offending bag went in the bin and she is eating the coles brand frozen berries now since theyre grown and packed in chile.
Hopefully our bag was from an uncontaminated batch but we wont know for a couple of weeks yet since the virus apparently has a two week incubation period.

My thoughts are with you,
Hope both you & the missus are fine & cop no adverse reaction mate.
Cheers.
