Found while gold detecting, any ideas?

Hi all,
Im posting this for a mate who was out detecting for gold in the gt recently and dug this up from about 300mm depth in what he called 'nice looking clay'.. he says it appears to be made of 'plastic', with a metal centre and sounded just like gold. To me it looks like a bullet projectile, though ive never heard of them being plastic.. appreciate any input and ideas everyone might have?
