Did you give it a go in all-metal mode, if you can't pick it up in that mode then I doubt it would be successful in any other. As Grubstake mentioned if you purchased the F75 from a Fisher dealer then you should be fine, unfortunately there are plenty of copies floating about on ebay.
Whilst I do have a F75 (dst/fast process model), it rarely gets a run these days. Still trying to get my head around the tones as they are quite different to those on other detectors I currently use. Also pays to have a play around with the sensitivity control as you don't necessarily have to have it cranked up to get good depth - it will even hit on coins when set to "0", and can get quite noisy if ramped up too high.
As very few people in Oz run with the F75, it might pay to visit some of the US forums to get some pointers from more experienced users (Findmall).
