Hello to all, my first post here. I have just began my prospecting career (very much part time) in the last few weeks with a brand new Garrett AT Gold detector. After watching a heap of online videos of everyones great find i am pretty keen to get amongst it but to start learning the machine i have just been practicing on some junk filled areas for a few sessions. Today was my first trip out, about an hour hike into the hills following a dry creek bed until i found a spot that looked nice enough to hang around for the morning. I didn't expect to find any gold on this venture and i was right however within moments of starting detecting i did get a good signal, nothing like the junk i had been practicing on. I was very hopeful that it was going to be a nugget and after digging out a lot of rocks i did find a nugget in the hole, only trouble was that its the wrong colour. A bit of cleaning and the silver starts to polish up, unfortunately it broke into 3 pieces when i pulled it out of the ground but still a total of around 8 grams. This wasnt what i was expecting to find but im just happy to be finding anything at all that isnt junk. Now does anyone know how to best clean and polish this stuff?
