Ok I am about a week out from a drive up to cairns.
My brother has flown down to drive the other car up.
Most likely going straight up the middle. Quickest way?
Should do it over 4-5 days easy.
Anything I shoud stop and look at on the way?
Will have a few hrs to stop and play on the way.

So I'm still packing up the house. ( have to be out by Tuesday morning )
Will stay at in-laws for a week to celebratemy little girls 6th birthday with family before I leave them here for a week
Gives me time to get up and settle in
Just hope the rain holds off a little to unpack.

So a goodbye to Melbourne and to all the friends I have made on the forum
And hopefully make some new friends in cairns to go prospecting with.
Cheers Kane.

Have a safe trip give me a yell if you need help with anything when you get up here.

Hi XIV , quickest would be Hume Hwy , but then Sydney is a bottleneck , so need to get around it , then New England , stay off coast road

Cheers Paul

Rubyvale GPA(sapphires), Clermont GPA(gold) and Charters Towers (gold - but not sure where) would be on my list of Qld stops.

If you are tracking a bit further west, the dinosaur trail offers some interesting stops. Think there is a fossil GPA outside Winton. Qantas museum and stockmans hall of fame at longreach.

If I had to do only one - Rubyvale

Qld tourism has some great resources for the traveller, so you should be able to get more than enough things to do/see to fill about 5 trips worth.

I would point the toward shepperton, Tocumwal, then wagga then dubbo this brings you through lightening ridge, then roma then emerald I think it is the newel hwy I did it 12 months ago pretty good drive
cheers,
Lee

Thx Lee.
Was going to go straight up the middle.
Was hoping to get to lightning ridge for the first day.
Big drive I know. But if I can I will spend half a day there and recuperate
Might even have a look around.

Hey Kane,
That's a big move 8) .
Best of luck with your house move & that everyone settles in quickly.
Was good meeting ya at the Gippy Get-together.

thanks marty
i had a great day out with you all
hope to catch up next time i'm down in vic for a day

House is all packed into the trailer and boat.
And handover was done so I have no house to live in for now.
Just waiting to here back from the real estate. And looking at heading off next Tuesday.
I'm limited to what I can take up with me so I will have to leave some of my prospecting gear in Melbourne and get it sent up later.
And the highbanker will stay here but will take all the mats out and build a new box when I get up.
It was made from a bit of box gutter.

Just a heads up on my progress
Now am I going to be driving into a cyclone or will it have passed. And are the roads going to be under water up north.

Good luck and have a safe trip. I'm from SE Q.L.D and as far as I know (I haven't checked the weather this morning) there isn't much likely hood of major flooding as it'll be a fairly week system but as us you know with the weather lately things could change at any moment.
:) Mick

Gedday there Kane .... And as of sometime next week, Welcome to Coconut County!

The BOM has just up upgraded the weather situation to a Cylclone Warning from Port Douglas to Mackay .. While the system is still has not developed into a cyclone yet and is still classed as a tropical low, the current call is that it will develop further and cross the coast as a possible Category 1 Cyclone somewhere between Tully and Townsville late Thursday/early Friday .. So, by the time your wheels touch the tracks of our Fair Far North, it will probably be all over .. Ya poor bugger, you'll miss out on all the fun!

Check out the BOM site to see how things develop re cyclone tracking map and rainfall info etc.

Which ever way it goes, things will be pretty damp on the coast which means potentially pretty ****** road conditions .. My suggestion would be to come up through Central Qld .. Turn east at Charters Towers and then turn north at Townsville.

Look forward to have you joining us up here, .. ay. .... Stay well .. Drive safe .. Keep in touch.

Regards to you.

Totally agree with Palmer Digger. Not sure what roads will be closed but its pretty safe to say ill get flooded in living in the Northern beaches.

Roads may be a bit weather beaten for a couple of hundred ks around townsville. As Palmer said. Take it easy and check BOM and here for updates

Cheers, Tone
