Hey guys, just wondering if anyone in Melb rents out highbankers, I'd like to run one to see if it's something I'd like to buy.

I recall someone in Vic advertising rentals in ebay/gumtree a while ago. If you don't find anyone another option is to hook up with any of the PA members or meets as there are plenty of people who'll let you dig dirt and you can get the low down on highbanking at the same time ;)

Thanks mate, I saw one in rushworth, but that's a fair old hike from melb.
I really like the look of the gold rat units, but just a bit weary of buying something without ever trying it.
I would like to find enough gold to take to a jeweller to make a ring for my wife, she already has nice ones I bought her, but I thought it would be nice for me to source the gold, get it melted down and present her with a nice ring that I really earned. It would be a shed load easier to buy her another from the shops, but that's not the point.

Great sentiment mate i did exactly the same thing. Accept when i took the gold to the jeweler he was honest enough to tell me that he wouldn't actually use my gold in the ring so i sold my gold and bought the ring instead. Missus was happy with that.

With regards to seeing one of my highbankers maybe start a thread and see if anyone in melbourne will take you out with them. Theres a few members here whove purchased the pioneers series in melbourne.

If you're not in a hurry like the goldrat facebook page and youll get notifications as i anounce retailers who will be stocking my highbankers over the coming weeks.

I'll be trying to use my own gold as well for my missus' ring, along with my own found gem. She reckons that's a great idea and really meaningful and a wonderful thought. As a result I get to go out to get gold more than I'd normally get a pass for so to keep that happening, I only report a tenth of my gold tally ;)

The gold rat bankers look too good to use from the pictures  and well built. You can see there has been a good amount of thought put into them in comparison to some competitors notably in the classification area, they also use the new dream mat and, G0lddigg@ has significant real world experience in developing his bankers. How the dream mat works in practise I don't know but there are youtube vids of it. Someone up my way has one but the planets need to align so I can get a gander. Still, the best way to see if you have a long term interest is to go out with others. It's not just about the gold.

OHHH OK mate, what was the reason for him not using your gold? Was it too pure and soft? I assumed they could make an alloy by mixing stuff in the mix.

Gold Rings are not made from pure gold theres other metals that go into it aswell as gold itself is a weak metal ( wife was a jeweller ). I didnt know it either till i had the same idea haha

There is someone on this site doing the same thing and the jeweler required 7g of gold to make the ring but they would need to make it an alloy. I searched but couldn't find the thread.

Yes mate as has been said same deal. They combine alot of other metals to make a ring. Most of my gold was 97%plus purity about 23 carat.

Too soft. At least they were honest.

Hey guys, I looked at the gold rat highbankers, and yeah they look really nice, but $700 vs $290 for a sluicy gs11 or $210 for a gs10.
I ended up getting a gs11, I'll fit a spray bar to the top of the hopper and maybe some wheels on it to drag it around.
The dream mat from highbanker.com looks great and may upgrade to that later on, but I'll see how I go for now.
Time to look at some maps and find somewhere to start.
Cheers Mark

Your one looks better made mate, but as a play thing that will be used a couple of times a year it will do the job fine I reckon.

The Sluicy one is a great bit of kit though, it's put together with rivets vs the goldrat being tig welded.
But in the end if it achieves what I want from it then great.
So I'm really happy with the purchase and it seems great value.
I really hope I don't get the gold bug. I think my mate is keener than I am, he can't wait to get the little sucker in action.
He'll end up using it more than me, so that machine will give out lots of joy.... hopefully.

I agree 100% ,mate you ahve to buy what's in the budget and based on use for sure. Sluicy gear will get your out there and having fun in the Goldfields mate i'm sure you will love it. its all about time our bush mate :)
