Diamond and Gemstones search near Sydney

Hi All, just joined and thrilled to get to know fossicking community around ausee!!! Just curious I can visit any site from driving distance to Sydney, at weekend probably with family for fun and luck..... Thinking about Diamonds and Sapphire mainly....

Any advise / sharing experience is welcome.....

Plenty of locations within 3 hrs of sydney , your research should put plenty of diamonds on your map , but you will learn these are a bit like bunyips , theres old time writings of one being found but theres no solid records or large diggings to prove it , i know if i found one i would dig and dig looking for another.
Saphires are more likely to be found and theres plenty of public fossicking areas to get these , some you will need permits as there in state forrests
some you wont.
