I am just wondering if there is a product out there that uses vibration instead of sound to indicate a target? It would be great for the hard of hearing, you wouldn't have to wear headphones or have a speaker. Thoughts?

yes there is such a product, its used by oil and gas companies to gather formation information, its referred to as a seismic survey. The system works by sending a shock wave into the ground from which the reflected shock wave is then interpreted.

On land, a truck is used which has a pad mounted underneath it which is lowered down onto the ground with additional weight placed on the pad through hydraulic rams, it then basically wacks the ground extremely hard and sensors collect the reflected shock wave and software interprets the data.

Offshore, a pneumatic cylinder is lowered into the water which acts like a gas gun to send the shock wave.

There are only about 1/2 a dozen companies in the world with this technology that have the historical data and proprietary software to be able to interpret the returned shockwave accurately. However, the information gathered is more formation type... density, depth and interval on a grand scale rather than a gallon of oil or gas so to speak, so I doubt this technology would be successful on small scale solid matter like gold deposits.

When exploring for gold, companies loam & cut cores. Whats is cutting cores.. basically you drill down into the earth using a hollow drill bit which is able to retrieve a sample of the formation over a desire interval, for example retrieve a formation sample from 250 to 260m. The sample core is cut and then retrieved back to surface and physically examined.

Below is a core sample with visible Gold

Great question Goldfreak, and great answer Heatho. I never knew there were such vibrating detectors available.
The other thing Goldfreak (although not vibration) is Wazzas Eyespy? I've never used one, but I have seen pictures of them and discussions about them on here. A light that comes on when you are over a target.

vibrating detectors... snake oil

I note they have no details on that proclaimed vibrating technology with the Makro Racer

If we accept the Makro Racer vibrating technology, then all these Multinationals have been spending billions of dollars for when they could have bought out the makers of the Makro Racer for a pittance and owned the technology and saved billions, did that happen?

I would say the Makro Racer vibrating technology is nothing more than a mobile phone vibrating.

Buyer Beware!

I have over 30 years in global exploration with major Multinationals.. invoices for seismic surveys or logging run into the $millions!

If we accept the Makro Racer vibrating technology, then all these Multinationals have been spending billions of dollars for no reason when they could have bought out the makers of the Makro Racer and owned the technology and saved billions, did that happen?

I am not referring to the technology you are BigL. I just mean I detector that vibrates instead of beeps to indicate a target so you can feel it instead of hear it.

Not exactly user friendly for our purposes though ;)
I think your response is a little over engineered in relation to the questions intention

GoldFreak.. ok I understand but we need to be sure people dont get mislead believing that this vibrating detector is nothing more than a vibrating mobile phone, and not some fang dangled new technology.

Maybe a vibrating mode is something that Steel Phase could incorporate into their product.. would be a great option for many!

There are already detectors out that use a Spectrum Analyser type of screen so you get a visual confirmation of a target
