Location
West of the Yarra, East of SA,
Just back from 8 days cruising the sunny Sth Pacific and the mind boggles .....

Almost every day of the week a cruise ship deposits between 1500 - 2500 beach going passengers at one of around 8 island beaches throughout the cruise areas. At a rough guess (as not everyone goes to the beaches) there must still be at least 5000 each week at every one of the locations.

Surely someone must lose something on each of these beaches on a regular basis.

Has anyone ever tried detecting there .... or taken their detector with them on an overseas trip???
Wonder if the local 'natives' are into detecting, can't say I've seem it over there.

Not going again till next December but seriously considering taking the SDC or 705.

Love to hear from anyone if they've done any 'beach combing' up there.
Cheers Tom.

I bought a secondhand Sovereign Elite from a bloke who'd used it at Fijian resorts with private beaches and top-end beachside chalets. He said every swing produced multiple coins and there was plenty of jewellery scattered amongst them. Detector heaven, apparently!

Tks Grubstake .....doesn't surprise me and I think the beaches the cruise ships go to get even more traffic than the resorts.
Might have to start looking for a "WOT" coil for the 705 ....or just hope the SDC does the job.
Cheers T.

Welcome back young fella.
Mate, you could be a permanent 'cruiser' paying your way with finds   Just imagine it, jewellery, coins and hot babes at the beach through the day and pina coladas partying at night

I have toyed with the idea of visiting Sudest Island off PNG. There's lotsa gold through that neck of the woods- only thing is after BHP and their shifty mates decimation of Fly River and Bouganville, etc., etc., etc., etc....,the list is ongoing to the recent Brazil disaster, and all the pollution and displacement and civil unrest it caused, Europeans are, shall we say, "not liked much", except for the cooking pot.
However to get in at ground level with a few friendly locals and introduce them to electronic prospecting would be a mutually rewarding experience. Strip out a few components from some broken electronics and show 'em how to make their own detectors, find the gold, and some hints to avoid being shafted by global corporates.
The Bouganvillians made their own firearms to fight the PNG mercenary police, that the mining co.'s sent in to kill them, out of scrap metal with hand tools, so I'm sure the locals there would have a crack at their own detectors given the opportunity and motivation.

Beaches, babes, bourbon and beer can only satisfy a mere male for so long ...... then the gold fever returns.
Cheers Tom

Problem is (if you can call it a problem) that I'm putting the finishing touches to our Alaskan trip in July/Aug so only have a few months of detecting before I'm deprived again ...... unless I can find some more/better prospecting options in Alaska.
I no complain ......
Cheers

Yeah, my heart bleeds for ya mate, Alaska in July and then back onto the hi seas in December. It's tough
