Did u know that if you text 0477131114 when u are feeling really depressed or suicidal, a crisis worker will text with you? Many people don't like talking on the phone & would be more comfortable texting. It's a free service run by The Suicide Crisis Text Line
Text line is available 6.00pm - 10.00pm (AEDT), 7 days a week.
Please copy, paste, and spread the word
Thank you

Can we organise a sticky thread that is titled for this type of advice that others can add to or reference as needed. Maybe title it as a Lifeline thread or similar name to encourage all who need to reference it. Great info Ramjet I've had the difficult but successful experience of helping one of my brothers sadly I wasn't able to help another.

Great idea RM. I will look into it. Get a group of phone numbers and other contact info together.

The amount of absolute crap I have been through and going against,
I would never, Never even consider taking myself out.
Not at all necessary and not fair at all for those who you leave behind.
If you need help, Please, Talk to a Mate or some one.
It is not worth it. :gemstone:

Well said Doug.
I have lost a few friends this way over the years. Ex-service people have a very high rate of suicide.
If only they'd known what terrible damage they were going to leave behind to family and friends, I'm sure they would have re-considered their actions.
When that black dog is biting PLEASE, PLEASE talk to someone.
A friend, a neighbour or even a stranger, just talk - it costs you nothing and the saving to you, your family and your friends is priceless.
Cheers,
Dave.

Sadly my bro inlaw took his life yesterday. No indication. He just got back from a 2 month overseas holiday. He's been to just about every country. Vietnam Navy vet. Just goes to show money does not make for a happy life. You have to be happy in your heart.
Sad days indeed Rodney. Cheers mate.

having seen the darkest side of myself , i find talking to others does not help

from 9 deaths in a year and then losing my job , things got low :awful:

my wife never knew at one stage if i would still be kicking when she got home :skull:

knowing she was there with me i got myself through it  i had some folk i used to call friend try and keep me down ]:D

they seem to get pleasure from my pain  this is why i do not suffer a&seholes or fools :Y: :power:

i do what i want when i want to keep my mind in a good place ;)

detecting was/is a huge part of this

in closing , no matter how bad you feel self harm/persecution does not make anything better :( and will only harm those around you :awful:

find something you like to do and do it

Over the years after many life's injustices and sadness's, I have pondered the jump.
Its certainly a test of character and there are many that don't have the strength and support to go on.
Ever driven down the highway and said will I ? to swing into an on coming B Double? I have a few times.
The fact that I didn't want to hurt the B Double driver stopped me I'm sure at times.
Any help and any ear that will talk and help is a good thing but change must come from within I think, and you get to a point where you push on and through it and life improves with glimmers that start to inspire you to go on.
I was at the doctors the other day and they have started a new book on line or SMS for appointments. I asked why and I was told that people don't like the talking on the phone because it causes stress and they wont book. In fact booking have now gone up.
So this service sounds like a great idea.

Well said ctxkid. :Y: :perfect:

I think people who have never been through it, far to often look at it through logical eyes. It is an illness, a mental illness where the logic does not exist to the insane mind.
There may not be a lot of bad stuff happening in your life. It all depends on when that dog arrives and that black cloud comes down, it does not nessecisarily have to do with the amount of 'crap'' you're going through.

Very, very true. It's so easy to say pick up the phone and talk to someone. Folks do not see the problem in the same way as one suffering from depression does and often it does not work and can even move that person into a darker place as the friend brushes the problem off as a minor issue. Which it probably is to the sane mind. But to a sick person they will see it as their mate doesn't really give a toss about them as if they are trivializing the problem

I ended up ditching pretty much my entire past to deal with that issue. Didn't contact anyone at all from the first thirty five years of life including most of my family. Only after a fourteen year break from the hiatus did I get back in contact (August this year). Geeze, I didn't recognize many. A lot of grey hair. :D :D
.
.

Mental awareness seems to be a big thing at the moment. Almost fashionable to put something up on FB about being mentally aware, which is great but I wish there was more about mental understanding.
The one I often come across is

If only they'd known what terrible damage they were going to leave behind to family and friends, I'm sure they would have re-considered their actions.

To the sick person they are doing their friends a favour or their friends and family don't really give a toss about that person, so why exist? To the mentally ill person, reconsidering would would just confirm what they are trying to do is for the best. :skull:

I/We don't have too many friends as ctxkid has pointed out... You know who your TRUE Friends are in a time of need... Sometimes it's very hard to open up to a 'Mate' but when you do open up, they run for the hills or in our case tell everyone that we are loopy and are loosing the plot or are taking Bad Drugs....

With the stresses of life I have found a brilliant Physiologist.. I see Him 2 times a month and boy, things have changed in the way I deal with things now... Opening up to a Stranger has helped me a great deal...

So if anyone is having issues Please go see your GP and get the ball rolling... Under Medicare you can get 10 free sessions a year... :perfect:

Wishful, Im so sorry for your loss and you know where I am if you feel you need to chat... :brokenh:
