The fine substance inside this rock. I don't think it's Gold doesn't look yellow enough to me but I'm very clueless so thought I would ask here :)

Is that ironstone?

I'm going to go for copper pyrite... I'm a total noob so just guessing :D

Have no idea what type of rock it is. Fridge magnet doesn't stick to it at all.

From my experience fridge magnet hardly stick to fridges and are so weak will unlikely stick to anything that is not perfectly flat, try a proper rare earth magnet maybe.

Borrowed son's earth magnets and indeed every surface of the rock is magnetic. Here are some more pics.

The rock looks like slate and the yellow specs are most likely Chalcopyrite with some oxidization on the surface. Its looks abit like the slate from around the Enfield area that has been referred in geological reports as "gold slate" and is described as " fine-grained, dark-bine, and greasy". So knowing where it came from and having more pictures will help.

Don't look like gold to me.. I am no geo or expert..

Looks like its some kind of Basalt to me, does it make sparks if you hit the edge with a hammer?

Cheers, Tone

Thanks Barra just googled 'Chalcopyrite' and indeed looks like the stuff. This rock is from Gympie on the sunshine coast.
