Hi all,

I am a complete newbie to detecting but have wanted to have a go for many years.
Cheers for letting me join you & this wealth of knowledge.

Trying to arrange a decent entry level detector thats worthy of getting for WA for around $1000.
Hoping to be able to find small Gold with this detector so need a decent one I guess.....

Seems to be alot of options so been doing alot of reading.
Any additional info or tips are welcome.

I hope to end up being a solid contributor to this hobby.

Cheers,

Stu..

Im not currently working so $1000 is even a stretch.
A mate has put me onto the Minelab Gold Monster 1000 which he said is a good cheap starter for the area we are in.
He knows alot more than I do so sounds good. I had one lined up for $645 but I was 15 mins too late & it was sold....ggrrrrr

I have found an old detector my dad had but not sure if its even worth anything as parts.
It seems to be a Garrett GroundHog 15, but all I have is the coil & post no battery or consoles etc.

I will keep reading up & looking for another good deal for me. Ive seen I can hire a detector for $100 a week so might try that even.

Are you in S/West, Midwest, Nor'west or Inland (Goldfields) ?

Hiya Ded, Im actually near Perth but happy to travel thats all part of this adventure Im hoping for.

Well I finally have a Gold Monster 1000 to put to the test.
Threw it together last night & tested it in the backyard seems pretty decent & seems to work well.
Been watching a few you tube vids etc of how tos etc.
Hoping to get out into some old country in the very near future but hope to test it a bit locally first.
