LOL! Hey simple shovel fix 1" pipe with T handle weld her up!
Ive been building up a collection of busted shovels one day i'll put some together :) need an excuse to buy a lath though... justify it to the missus :)

Had a deposit on a lathe twice now I keep changing my mind as I can only think of a few jobs to do and it's cheeper to just get the local bloke to do them.

i reckon if i had a lathe i'd make a few bit of furniture here and there to cover the cost, theres plenty of nice cuts of wood about.

Well i just busted my shovel (does anyone make a decent shovel anymore) so I'll be sure to insert it nice and deep next time. Maybe its karma for running others tailings, i dunno mate i wonder if its just everyone for themselves sometimes. Took a drive up Scotsmans Rd yesterday rake backs and detector holes everywhere. Guess who fixed it? Throwing rocks hey? Hmmm you might be onto something.

I use a hoe on a axe handle ;)

Pop bought a new wagon wheel years ago and now he is gone iv still got about 3 spokes left have made the best block splitter & tool handles for the last 10 years.

an old time spoke shave is a very good tool for making shaped handles. the trick is to find a good hard piece of wood for the job that will not crack or break.. :)

Its not a bad idea, just trying to keep the weight down, but maybe i should keep a sturdy welded one beside me for the extra leverage, knowing my luck though I'll shear the face. While I'm welding might put a hoe head and a spike on the other end to make three deadliest earth moving hand tool, an all purpose job. I'll chuck it under diy to get me in the draw before the end of the month. I'm already getting excited.

Why not make your own out of high carbon steel with a back bone that finishes not far from the leading edge. After the welding get it heat treated for tensile strength.
