It is illegal to build any structure that interferes with
the course of a stream bed.
When the old timers used a wool hide to capture gold,
It become known as Golden Fleece.
Sound Familiar. ?

And also agree on the *******s that leave rubbish behind.
Total lack of respect.
Heck, I collect my smoke butts for later disposal.

Generally it's illegal it interfere in any way with the flow of a watercourse(unless your a government body so u get to ignore your own rules), thus my comment above about gullies as gullies have completely different rules and often state the exact opposite to the rules for watercourses.

Hmm you know lm not sure, but so long as it wasn't listed as littering then l can't think why sticking a few sheep skins down in appropriate spots could be seen as breaking any laws. Might work on private property if you found a suitable bit of bedrock or something, maybe use a suitably shaped big rock to hold it at one end to cause a deadspot behind the rock with the fleese their to catch the results?

Oh, I was not offended? although I'm not sure why Whisp got worked up? It seems like the idea sits on the fringe like carbide bomb fishing, you know it's not right even if it works really well. I don't think Fun Police figure into it in any way.

They certainly work, but I don't think we should promote the idea. It's enough we have to put up with dredges and they work really well. If people started placing permanent sluices in our rivers and creeks every few hundred metres I'm pretty sure someone is going to get jack of it pretty fast.
Fisheries came down on me because my tailings were making a wash 10-15 metres below me, trying to tell me it could cause a fish kill, what would they say if I was down my favourite spots with formwork pouring a cement slab into the river, that understandably would be an environmental hazard, and really I don't want all the gold, I'm happy to leave some for you and your kids and their kids.
Don't worry Chris, I was more thinking of a bucket and trowel not a whole cement truck. I know what you mean about the " fish kill " guy. I got in trouble once for apparently "altering a river course" with a tea spoon.
