Just thought I'd post these comments from Codan's (Minelab) investor presentation released on 21st February 2025 regarding Minelab's future direction..

" • Release next generation of detectors across
recreational, gold and Countermine over the
coming 6 to 18 months
• Grow recreational market share via
expansion of retail distribution footprint in
US & Europe, leveraging eCommerce
channel
• Enhancing high-powered marketing,
branding and consumer experience
capability, while reinforcing brand presence
and reputational strength overtime."

Further on in their presentation regarding marketing they comment

"Shift in consumer preference towards direct-to-consumer
and eCommerce channels"

Codan's annual general meeting are normally held around October each year in Adelaide and any shareholder is entitled to raise questions of the board as to the direction that Codan is taking Minelab.
Perhaps as a group of Minelab users, it may be worthwhile considering at least one of us to become a shareholder who can act as a proxy to raise questions on behalf of the greater number of our members.

PS Codan shares peaked in 2021 at about $18, dropped to about $4 during COVID and have recovered as of a couple of days ago to $16. Just thought I'd give a background as to the roller coaster ride in case anyone thinks I am recommending buying shares.

I was a shareholder in Coden, sold for a profit but nowhere near the price they are now, if I was a shareholder now I would certainly be asking questions about thier recent decisions on cancelling retailers rights to sell their products if I was aware of it.

Minelab's behavior is very difficult to fathom, was told by a reputable source yesterday that all Miners den staff have been advised they're (potentially) redundant with a promise to keep all staff on, no details provided !!!!
Now if Minersden lost their Minelab dealership due to carrying other brands (& that's how it appears ton me), it makes little sense to now provide The Prospectors Depot with a dealership given they also carry third party detectors.
Maybe I'm missing something here but they surely are screwing with peoples future employment.

I remember when Finders in Dunolly lost the Minelab dealership. They were also carried other brands like Whites.
When one of Minelab's new detectors came out, the GP Extreme I think, but could be corrected there, Minelab were heavily advertising the extra depth that it had.
Finders were openly critical of that claim and Minelab withdrew the dealership from them shortly after. It was commonly felt at the time that Minelab's action, wasn't about the other brands issue but a reaction to adverse commentary (justified or not) by one of their dealers.
Just some history.

I can interpret some of this if you like :

"Release next generation of detectors across
recreational, gold and Countermine over the
coming 6 to 18 months
." = We are def gonna do something sometime but dont wanna spill the beans or commit ourselves to a timeline we might not meet. With a bit of luck we will be ready before Nokta and can sit tight & screw up their launch once it is announced.

" Grow recreational market share via
expansion of retail distribution footprint in

= Hey we have Oz sewn up, we need to fix Deus & Nokta with VLF in europe & Garrett in US with VLF & PI ( good luck with that one ), & good news, we dont need dealers in the markets, just eBay and a coupla service/warehouse centres.

"Enhancing consumer experience capability" = Guys, we really gotta figure out a way to stop making crap quality detectors where 20% get sent back under warranty . Besides pissing off the users its cutting into our profits.

Well that's interesting Grumpy, Coden doesn't seem to mind them selling other brands.
Yep dave that's what spun me out a bit
i have only met the bloke once ,very easy going and easy to talk to ,has a wealth of local knowledge
only went in there to look at a locally made rock crusher and 1 and 1/2 hours later i escaped when another buying customer come in😂
there were 3 other people in the shop all chatting about what they had found and where it was found

the 4500 is out for sale again ,word is they found a few in a closet somewhere:rolleyes:
Yeah sure, more likely they want to have something out there right now at the Algoforce price point to put pressure on the new player but dont want to drop to 5000 price too far or show their hand with new stuff until Nokta launch announced. ML wouldve been better off keeping the SDC price below $4k as that is the Algoforces main competitor

Like Woody I would be keen to know if the 4500 re-re-release is the pre 2013 48x gain version or the post 2015 re-release 5000 style 36x gain one.

My money is it is just the dumbed down 5000 as no manufacturing changes needed other than menu & artwork.... still good value though, but I think these days that most folk, especially those trading thru the $3k pp arent interested in the weight, seperate battery and unecessary menu complexity of the GPX line... Prob sell well O/S at that price.
