FYI I came across this newly approved EL area in the Canberra Region - pdf map available but I am unable to upload it due to forum security.

EL 8051 was granted to CGNM Resources Pty Ltd on 9 January 2013 for a period of 2 years. The licence is to explore for Group 1 minerals (metallics including gold, silver & copper).

Thanks for the info Jed.

Last year a geological survey plane was spotted over the skies at Bywong.. so I guess the survey showed there was some gold down there. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they found bucket loads out there.

BTW: I was out at the Alma last week and noticed the bush around the various shafts had been cleared by bulldozer. Yesterday I was poking around out there again and now all the shafts have been secured by a cyclone fence with a very substantial looking concrete footing. So things are hotting up out there also.

Here is a picture of the cyclone fence I mentioned, these have been erected around every major shaft on the site.
The footings are very deep and look as though they are there to stay.

Probably a good thing as the shafts were never covered and just an accident waiting to happen..

Many thanks James. I have been offline for Mothers Day in Goulburn.
I was wondering if the Chinese company would be active on this EL given the drop in the gold price - now we know

Hi again James - I just had a thought that maybe the property owner might be trying to make his place safe (for insurance??) or was it crown land then it might be the NSW Govt/a Dept (public liability??) ?

Replying to an old post... but the second round of geosensing flyovers was done a couple of months back. Still no news of any proposed ground activities - it's possible they've located new deposits, but far more likely they're considering the same ones that have been proposed before but may be less speculative with more sensing data. Gundaroo and near Springrange are punted as the most likely targets - but we're all guessing.
There are quite a few (other) reasonably rich and previously unworked gold deposits in the general area - but nothing really big. Good luck to them - historically this area is very anti-mining (and prospecting). All of the best of the previously worked deposits, and unworked deposits are on very expensive horse properties - many owned by people with influence. Some of the previously worked deposits still get worked (check Google Maps) - but not officially. One of the areas that has been considered for mining before (on the Yass River near Sutton) is about to become a housing estate - so their chances of mining there are slim - and the old workings nearby (Deadmans Creek working) are partially covered by a recent permit for hard rock quarry. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
