Hi there Bluestreaker545, I'm quite new at this and you seem to know what you are talking about so I was wondering if we could catch up and you can show me the ropes. I'm really intrigued with these creeks out at neerim South, because I've only been panning in the bunyip river and I have only found three dollars in gold coins (probably more valuable than anything you have found).
Please help. This is urgent.
Thank you for listening and I look forward to your reply bluestreaker545, or bs545 for short :)

Hi Goldenboy545, Welcome to the forum :) As a newbie you'll defiantly find this forum full of advice and many great people willing to answer questions you may have. Just be aware though that there is a list of rivers that are exempt from prospecting in and unfortunately the Bunyip river is one of them :( .

Scroll down on this list of Questions and all the rivers/ creeks are listed.

Oh I didn't realise that. Lucky I didn't find a big nugget down there!
Thanks for the heads up Rick.

Hi BS545, Ticky Dick

And as I said earlier you're in the right place it's a gold bearing area ....... all the area in a wide arc looking to the north, east and west from Nerrim South is auriferous country. Stay out of the Yarra Ranges NP and the Tarago River (it is an "exempted" stream) and there's more than enough area to keep you busy.

I too was looking at the Tarago to have a prospect until reading this...but after going through the list a few times i couldnt find the Tarago on it anywhere. Is there newer versions of the list and im just reading from an old one or something?

Hmmmmmmmm! i checked the list and sure enough it's not on there - which is puzzling because the reservoir behind the dam wall is managed by Melbourne Water and it supplies drinking water to Westernport and Mornington Peninsula and be aware that MW catchments are definately no go areas for gold fossicking which is why i posted the caution early on this thread.

So it is...as if it wasnt confusing enough lets hide it away from the rest of the T's lol. Ive always read the list believing it was in alphabetical order...would have caught me out for sure, now i know to be more careful.

I think the list is ordered by region (not shown?) and then alphabetical, I've made the same mistake a few times. These days I use the browser search function to find the stream on the page, I don't get so confused then!
