Bucket Soil Water Thing?

Hi john, from what I know, the water goes nowhere near the top of the bucket. Its just like a venturii so it blasts any water and material straight into the outlet pipe which is why its larger there.

I'm not sure how this would work unless the bucket is at the same level or above the sluice
