Suggestion (this is what I do with my buckets) remove the wire handles, add a section of garden hose and replace.
That way the wire wont hurt your hand. Particually if you are twisting to classify.

The bucket sieve is one of the best items in my arsenal !
They are the fastest non mechanical classifier around. Much better then manufactured sieves.
Here is my handy work made from off cut gal perf. 12mm holes.

Yeah I too think this is a fast way of classifying and especially good for breaking down the clays! Definitely going to make one these!

Still using the same bucket sieve for last couple of years. Mesh is starting to show some signs of wear.
Must say it gets a hammering tho.
Everything upto 9" rocks go in if they need washing.

Still my #2 fave prospecting bit of gear after the Garrett Supersluice.

I just made 3 of these, Ag Man - one for me, and one each for my two youngest. My little girls' has the mesh about 2/3 of the way down, so that she can sieve straight into her pan without having to hold the suspended weight of the 10L bucket full of rocks! All I need to do now is find a weekend to head out to Oberon. Great design there Ag Man!

Finally got my bucket classifier made, used heavy duty 1/2 inch mesh, gave it a test the other day & was bashing the wire while breaking up dirt clumps in it, no problems at all. The heavy wire needed a good bit of cutting, bending etc to fit but well worth the effort.
Got some wire left so might make a classifying basket now.
Bit rough but being pretty doesn't help find gold.
Wire is 1.2mm thickness I think.

Still needed the gap filled around the edge in the pic below.

Going through some paydirt I collected from Creswick.
The little black wire mesh basket on the left was good for classifying the paydirt a little more for the pan.

Thanks Billy, found a little colour while using it, more to come hopefully.
Well worth using the heavy wire I think, a bit of stuffing around & cutting to get it fitting right but the strength is worth it.

The cat is my brothers, he was rescued from an animal shelter xmas before last, cat in my profile pic is mine, rescued from a dairy farm nearly 6yrs ago, they like hanging around while I'm panning out the backyard, as long as they don't crap in my paydirt.haha, not the sort of nugget I'm after.

This is a great idea, especially considering I only have a sluice at the moment. One question for everyone. Has anybody used a hose attachment on their pump, or a spray bar - or anything else, to help classify the material in the bucket? Or is the best way just to use a bit of elbow grease and do it manually?

Made three similar all different grade wire though. Using elbow grease. 12volt bilge pump n hose but never need it yet.
Thinking of adding an agitator soon. Picturing a vertical trommel hand propelled paddle that just lifts out of bucket to clear larger material..

Future project must finish current ones for now.........

One other thing, in the original post it doesn't look like Ag Man used liquid nails or any sort of glue. Subsequent posts seem to have used glue. Any advice on this one?

Had similar thoughts; use either wet or dry. Have the sieve spin, thought of a round deep fry basket with a crank handle at the top. Have it fit into another bucket to collect concentrates. Still working it out in the nut closet, haven't got to paper yet.
