Hey guys I wasn't sure which part of the forum to put this so I put it here lol. My main intention is I'd like to try some panning and sluicing along the turon river somewhere along the bridal track but I've heard that the track had a landslide many years ago and is impassable. I also heard that there is now a new bypass they have added to get around the damaged section of the track.

Has anyone been down the track since the landslide? Are you still able to get to the turon river via hillend side of the track? I'd also like to go and have a look cause I heard there's all old mines and stuff along the rivers edge etc that interest me and I'd like to see in person.

Cheers Justin

I was there about 6 months ago ,it was still blocked ,I only got so far and the 4x4 n got a bit hectic for the kids?

You need to access the Turon River from the Hill End side, the bridle track is a spectacular drive for dry conditions only.

It will get down to the river and then you follow the river for a bit down to a causeway. The gully's feeding into it are good for panning also.

I have not been any further but would like to.

Sounds good wally I'm still very new to it all but this looking on maps and researching a lot is taking me to all these wonderful places :)

Hey Pawny
Hope big John pulled up ok after the weekend
If you want info on the bridle track you just have to ask mate
Crackers and myself have been camping down there for years
You can access the river via Hill end in a two wheel drive no problems, or come in via the root hog track and cross the river about half way down to Monaghans
In your beast this is real easy and much quicker than going to Hill end :)

ps I have a lure in my car that is up for ransom
4 wild turkeys should secure its release

Hahaha sorry mate didnt see this post till now. Yeh i asked jon where his lure was he had no idea lol not suprised after a whole bottle straight turkey. I remembered afterwards that you guys took it with you to the hospital.
cheers on the info to :) i contacted bathurst council about it and they said nothing :p no responce what so ever. But anyways im keen on goin up there and doin some sluicing or panning along the river somewhere. Give it a try :)

Hey Pawny, Bridle track not that bad, enter a couple streets up from Hill End Pub, sure the sign tells you that the track is closed but that's km's away, fantastic drive all the way down to where the Turon meets the Macquarie. Plenty of areas to explore and nice area to camp on the river. While id say...yes, there are some spooky views and single lane u wanna be driving slow as you look down almost cliff like sides at one point, and if u don't mind driving past a couple of boulders that look like they may give way at any time (or be comfortable perched there for the next 100 years)...top drive and can be done in a 2wd with care but is prob more suited to a 4wd. Its def a drive to remember, and an awesome spot to check out, id put it up there as a "should do" for any NSW prospector in the Hill End area.

We were camped down there a few times not long ago...and would drive up to the Pub each afternoon, and if we had too much we just got a room for the night and drove back to our tent the next morning! Wife winning on "wheres the gold" sealed our fate......take the room fee out of that payout please!

Needless to say some time late that night wife got "cut off", and I wasn't far behind her. Oh the memories!!
