I was having a play on eBay tonight and spontaneously decided to buy a couple of small nuggets. They're apparently from the Golden Triangle, 0.23gram and 0.24gram ($37.40 delivered). The seller has plenty of positive feedback so I thought I'd the take the risk and see what turns up.

I'm not really up to speed with natural nugget prices so I most likely overpaid, or maybe I got a good deal? either way it's not a lot of money to spend on the odd occasion and I'm sure they'll look good in the collection :)

Nugget.

Looks good Nugget. I've thought about purchasing some myself a few months ago but I've decided that my very first flake and/or nugget must be one I've personally found. Just sentimental reasons that's all :D

A couple of cool looking nuggets Nugget :D
I have thought of buying some just to test my detector ( and to admire and drool over )
Let us know what you think of them when they turn up.

Cheers

LOL . was just looking at the ones I bought last year & saw your post Nugget. Generally they say a nice shaped nugget can get spot + 20% , specially for crystalline gold.
A few of these cost me arround that and the bigger ones 5.2g & the 2.69g , I got for just over spot. What you have paid is double , but at under $50 , they are great to look at & test with

Cheers HB,

I'll remember to shop around next time, but to be honest I wasn't overly fussed about the price as it was an impulse buy fueled by boredom more than anything else lol. Where abouts do you buy your nuggets from?

Nice collection by the way, the blue M&M really sets it off

The sellers ID is manikato222 if you wanted to check them out. They've got heaps more nuggets for sale, but now looking through them I can see they are a little overpriced, ah well it happens

Cant remember Nugget , but was a WA prospector on the Kalgoorlie GF's , He had sold 100;s before I bought from him, so figured he was safe, They also get better prices selling on Ebay , rather than 90% spot from Perth Mint

I have seen some Nuggets asking 200% spot , utterly ridiculous

Thanks HB, I'll check them out. I just received an email regarding a $4 refund for combined postage which I thought had already been applied, so the cost is now $33.40.

According to http://goldprice.org/Calculators/Gold-Price-Calculators.html, the melt value is $20.37, so when you include a small premium and postage fee, I probably only overpaid by around $5-6 dollars. I can live with that

I bought my test peice via a forum. When you want to buy gold just ask on forums who's looking to sell. I paid spot but spot then was a fair bit higher than spot now :p suffice to say it was $11 for 0.2g

That's not a bad idea Ben. For the last couple of years I've traded Silver through an online forum and gained a pretty good understanding of what premiums apply to it's various forms (bullion coins, bars and various numismatics), but as my first time buying Gold in it's natural form I wasn't too sure of what premiums apply to natural nuggets or what to specifically look for in terms of characteristics (if any).

Maybe someone could post up a Gold Nugget Buyers Guide :D

some nuggets can fetch high price because they look like some thing I have seen one that looked like Australia I have one little one that looks like a golden potato :) only very small 1 gram nugget :)

I bid on a silver nugget from the flinders ranges on ebay a while back but ended up retracting the bid when I couldn't find any information on there ever even being silver mined in that area - just couldn't be certain that what I was buying was a natural silver nugget. I'd buy one if I could though!
