Typical insurance company, any chance they can refuse payout they do, Maybe have a chat with fair trading as anything in your car that is owned by you is a personal effect so they are liable to cover it up to $500, they have a list on what is covered as personal which is BS. as it only suits the Jones's of the world, sorry up there they are called NT CONSUMER AFFAIRS 1800 019 319, Maybe next time say the vehicle was broken into back window smashed and your I phone and lawn mower was stolen, Best of luck Dav

Hearing that, and upon outcome, i'd also write them a letter explaining just that.

Hint:..due to the current spotlight on the banks, i'd also 'advise' them if they are unable to 'help' that your considering going to the ombudsman. Might make for a different outcome.... ;)

Another fine example of the facilitation of corporate criminality. We should not have to fight tooth and nail for a fair outcome. Insurance isn't even worth the paper it is written on these days. Along with davents example of "personal" property, I would suggest you ALL read the fine print on your coverage for storm damage VS weather events VS flood damage. It seems they can avoid payment by shifting the goalposts as they go.

davent I use a broker & they seem to find the best deals. Still need to shop around though, changed broker earlier in the year due to renewal and saved 5 & 1/2 grand for multiple policies. Better in my pocket than theirs ( insurance company that is) hope you find a good deal

Typical of some insurance companies, price paid for insurance has no relation to the service and support provided. I have too many stories to relate here but the moral of the story is if you must have insurance get the cheapest you can find, read the fine print and if you need to make a claim and they try to dud you then contact the Ombudsman.

In contrast I had a good experience driving my vehicle through the Deua river when it was a little high and the engine ingested some water. Towed it out and pulled the glow plugs purging the water and off we went. It wasn't running great so I did a compression test when I got home and had done two rods. Found out the vehicle had run out of rego and told the insurance company but they didn't care and paid out.

I take it by law that any thing in the interior of the vehicle is your personal space.
That is why unless you have an arrest warrant against you, The reason why police
ask you to step out of your vehicle. ??
They need a very good law full reason to remove you.

Agree with you there davent, for me it wasnt comminsure but suncorp.
Wont touch suncorp again, dont trust insurance companies/ banks as far as I can throw em but hard to function without some form of banking these days. :(

Nuff said. Gripe finished.

Tomorrow, I will ask for a full list of what is considered personal effects.
I want a definition, if a lawn mower and a fishing reel is considered, then I fail to understand why solar panels are not, either way, I will claim the rear window , its $650 ish fitted, excess is $450, And once the window is in, the policy is finished, and the TIO or AAMI will get my buisness, then it will be off to see my new manager, whomsent me a buisness card in the mail, with "do not hesitate to contact me if I can help" and explain to her why im re financing my $960K loans to another bank and cancelling the credit cards and cancel my salary from the cba pay scheme, divorceing myself from the bank.
It probably won, t have any effect on them at all, but it will make me feel better, and im sure I, ll actually save a few bucks with 12 month intrest free transfers with the credit cards and I might even get a slightly lower interest rate on the home loans and insurance.

F#*k em!

Thanks for the heads up, have been considering CommInsure after what has happened with TIO.

The trouble with insurance company's is they are pretty good at selling the
concept of insurance while doing their best to not actually provide insurance.

They are good at selling insurance, though not so good out spelling out the details in the fine print that many neglect to properly investigate, usually due to the sheer complexity and wording of the details. I'm just as guilty as anyone for not properly digesting all the fine details on my policies, or anything else for that matter (who ever reads the pages of fine print when purchasing a phone App??).

Flood insurance is a perfect example of where the devil is in the detail under what circumstances you are or are not covered for. Year after year you see the hard luck stories from flood victims that have had their insurance knocked back, in many cases due to technicalities in the fine print. At the end of the day, these companies exist to make money for the shareholders and investors, not to pay out at a moments notice and at every opportunity. Which way is easier to make money, by continually increasing premiums until it becomes unaffordable to the masses, or to simply add more exclusions in the fine print to save them from having to pay out. I'm thinking the latter.

We had the hot water tap washer collapse in the shower (wall cavity) while the tap was in off position, no one was home at the time. Came home to a flooded bathroom and carpet in hallway a few tiles had started to lift on the bathroom floor. Rang the insurance company, tiles were covered but not the carpet? the carpet in their mind is contents WTF. Spot on davent F#^kem thieving pricks. Fixed it myself rather than pay the pricks any more money & changed company when policy was due for renewal. Wouldn't be with out it though never know what's around the corner.

Yep, changing company, and will waste as much time of the new company as I can stand, getting them to explain the policy, might even record the explanations.
As for this claim, I will pay the 450 excess for the claim, and the moment they pay, im cancelling the premium so they cant screw me on no claim bonus crap. Comminsure will never see another cent from me.
They obviously never heard of the internet.....facebook etc.

The insurance companies make normaly honest people lie so they can actually get a claim. For goodness sake that is why we have insurance, people should not have to tell lies. These companies, like banks, make billions a year.
We should just chuck money under tbe mattres for emergencies.

The $200 difference between your excess and repair isnt worth it. You can guarantee your premium will go up next year close to if not more than $200 .
That is another massive rort they use , no claim discount does not prevent your insurance premium going up. You will still get your discount BUT on the HIGHER premium .

Another big rort ... My new car went up about $200 to insure after 12 months .. there reasoning is that parts are dearer now the cars a bit older ?
But the car is also probly now worth $10,000 less if written off so if anything it should remain the same if not cheaper.

By the way , im paying about $1300 A year on max no claim bonus to insure a 40 grand Colorado 4x4 . What a rip off.
