We were out last night when a decent thunder storm rolled over. The back door had an old cat flap in one of the side panels and one of the dogs (probably Rosie, as she had her head through the hole when we got home, and had a decidedly guilty look about her) tried to force entry through the cat flap. That would have been a neat trick, as Rosie is Labrador sized, and reasonably rotund. Having torn apart the cat flap, she started on the panel, and had made a fair go at it. The fact that the panel was MDF with just a thin veneer on it helped.

Rosie does not like thunder, but has never gone crazy before. The dogs have a nice laundry and beds to retreat to, as they usually do. When we got home, Percy was wet from running around in the rain so was obviously not scared enough to try to eat the door!

Forensic evidence (dog hair around the hole) confirmed the guilty party.

Hi DrDuck, my daughter has aparticularly highly strung Dalmatian Staffy X who also dislikes thunder, fireworks, strong winds etc.
Some 12 months ago she bought a thing called a thunder coat which wraps the dog tightly and helps to constrain their anxiety. ideal if you happen to know a storm is coming.
We also now give the dog Vetalogica Vita Rapid Tranquil Daily Treats, a herbal chew, one morning and night, this has made a huge difference to her daily behaviour, much calmer, less flighty and all round nicer dog to be with.
Cheers

Bloody MDF :N: should be outlawed I hate MDF and like dogs :Y:. We had lightning and thunder too, scares any dog unfortunately.

Funny thing, Manpa, Rosie is generally the laziest and calmest dog you can imagine. Her brother, Percy, is the flighty one, but does not bark as much, eat stuff, or get frightened by lightning. Go Figure!

The little bugger ate it all too, no bits of leather laying around at all. Now I wait to see if she poos out tiny couches on the back lawn lololol

You could take somebodies lead and add the pet to the curry ;) :) Not talking about anybody in particular but I've heard of it happening over here in the west ]:D

I agree with Madtuna, super intelligent, if not sometimes very stubborn. We have had bull terriers and they are just the most loyal and placid dogs that we ever had around our kids as they were growing up. Still remember Caddie very fondly, she was such a sweet bitch and a joy to be around.

Weird...I haven't heard that

A friend of mine has a golden retriever who they thought was on its last legs. Very sick and miserable, and the vet was at a loss.

So he took it to the park for a last walk before taking it to the vet to get put down, and the dog took a long and difficult dump, and produced one of his son's rugby socks.

Came good after that, and is still going strong.
