Black sand

I have a question. What do you do with black sand after you extract your gold? If your cons come from Richmond river or Shoalhaven, Turon rivers the may by small amount of platinum in it and maybe still some very fine gold. I am trying to figure out how to economically extract such a leftovers. Did anybody tried?

Natural therapy joints sell magnetic sands for healing or something like that. Probably more value in that then trying to extract 0.002g of gold.

Although my joints hurt a special in this weather, this is not what I have in mind.
Just think of it , if you are using walbanker how many kilos of black sand you thrown out.

The black sands from most places is fairly useless. The amount of other metals in the left overs is so small as to be of no real vallue.

If however you are getting your gold from around Beechworth your black sand may be mostly tin and that is worth something. If you could get enough of it you can sell it for more that the amount of gold probably. Need to run a pretty big sluice however. Other tin areas may also be worth it.

The best way to get anything of value out of black sand is to use a furnace. In some area's this can be worth doing as I have read on some historical records for the Ballarat goldfields that the old timers resorted to burning there black sands in furnaces so must have some economic value. You can get a furnace on ebay that has a 3 kg capacity for about $500.00

After you get all the visible gold out of the black sand, heat it out side in a cast iron frying pan until it is almost red then dump in cold water, this is called cracking and it will liberate any gold that was combined up with the sand. Do this out side in case there is mercury present in the sands. You might be surprised how much more is there.
