Hi to all and thanks for reading. I am new to this and as the title of my post hints at, I believe that I have the cheapest most dodgey metal detector here. It is so cheap and cheesy that i can't even tell what brand it is. The one thing it has in its favor is that it does detect metal ( and a few other unknown compounds invisible to the human eye). Its biggest problem is that I don't know how to adjust its settings or what the settings even do but my aim is to find the coolest thing with the worst detector. I would love to post a pick of it if anyone could tell me what the controls might do. I plan on hitting the local parks for coins and stuff to learn to target but I also have access to some nice local properties that may be worth a good looking at. If I get one reply I will ignore my shame and post a pic of my dodgey detector. Thanks for any help.

OK, I can sense the anticipation here. Everyone is probably thinking "What kind of piece of junk is this guy using". Well I expect a few of you will fall out of your chairs laughing thinking " That's not a Detector, more like a Dictector" and you could be right. However, while i was at the park with the kids today I decided to blow the dust off it ( bought it 6 years ago cheap and never used it) and give it a go. I gave the kids a coin to bury in an area under mulch stuff and the game was for me to find it. I thought that we would be going home 20c lighter but no, each time the machine found it. Of course I was hoping for a few more goodies but for now I am just happy to have my coin back. I did try unsuccessfully to upload a couple of pics of her but I couldn't do it from my Android phone. I am going to keep on trying though because I believe this machine will find enough good stuff to pay off the $70 I spent on it from EBay. It could even be made in China or where ever they buy their cheap stuff from.

i think once you have made 10 posts here you will find photos easier to upload , and coincidentally the private messaging betweeen members also becomes enabled.

i think the best thing i ever detected was 0.8 grams using the big toe on my right foot

and it didnt even have batteries in it at the time either

just goes to show , if youre walking up river with your arms full of pans shovels and buckets it doesnt hurt to give that thing a wipe with your toe that looks like either a shiney rock or an instant smile maker

Simple model number would tell us what it is.
You have mentioned that the kids had a ball with it.
That says all.
Welcome to our crazy world. :) :) :)

Great story about the Big Toe Detector. A device like that would probably have found a whole lot more than just my target coin. I searched all over my machine but there was no model number or manufacturer labels. Probably didn't want to be associated with the device. I tried again to upload pics but the button won't navigate to my photos, the button to change my avatar does however and I thought about making it my avatar, but its probably better looking than me even without its instructions. I am determined to find a way to get pics uploaded just to show off the finds and brag a little of course. So no pics yet but I think I can link a YouTube video.
Oopps, sorry. Got a warning about posting links until I reach a goal.

i didnt have a detector with me on that spot but intend going back to have a swing and check for more

Man going back to work is rough. Having said that, I do just spend the weekend camping in the Royal National Park right at the beach for 4 days and forgot to take my detector :( What a missed opportunity. And what a great reason to go back there. I have researched my detector a little more and have indeed discovered that it is a budget Chinese special :) My goal now is to make it pay. I am investing in rechargeable batteries and other than coin shooting I have a few private properties that I think could be worth a look over. Probably more of a panning zone but no harm in a little electronic look. One place was even a satellite ww2 airfield in its day, relics maybe?
